Hey, I'm Ender, I solve a problem that probably only I have, I was Ross' stats guy when the Super World was being made and when it came out. I would keep track of how many attempts it took Ross to beat each level, had a spreadsheet of all those stats, and eventually did the same for the Game Grumps, GTLive, and Panga when they played the world. I am also the guy who created the chart Doug referenced around the 40 minute mark of the stream, it's in the First Try spreadsheet, along with Doug's stats, in the Nintendo channel of the RubberRoss Dscord server. And I'm the one guy who came to these VODs wanting to watch Mario gameplay. I'm here (and in the comments of the last 2 VODs of this journey) to give hard statistical evidence of Doug's abilities in 2D platforming, be they good or bad. Anyway, stats: Gameplay starts at 53:06 Companion Spring Forever: 15 Tries, time of 12 : 21 therefore 3.3% of the World 8 total time and 3.5% of stream's runtime, 1.05 DPM Gameplay starts at 1:01:43 You Are The Monster: 37 Tries, time of 19 : 45 therefore 5.3% of the World 8 total time and 4.2% of stream's runtime, 1.82 DPM Gameplay starts at 1:23:15 The Monster Cage: 53 Tries, time of 37 : 45 therefore 10.2% of the World 8 total time and 8% of stream's runtime, 1.38 DPM Gameplay starts at 2:07:12 Rubber Rush: 170 Tries, time of 3 : 25 : 09 therefore 55.4% of the World 8 total time and 43.3% of stream's runtime, 0.82 DPM Gameplay starts at 5:58:25 Take A Bow, Sir: 172 Tries, time of 1 : 35 : 27 therefore 25.8% of the World 8 total time and 20.2% of stream's runtime, 1.48 DPM World 8 Averages: 89.4 Tries, time of 1 : 14 : 05 and therefore 15.8% of stream's runtime and 9.7% of total playtime, 1.31 DPM (Deaths Per Minute) World 8 Totals: 447 Tries, time of 6 : 10 : 27 and therefore 79.1% of stream's runtime and 48.3% of total playtime, 1.19 DPM (Deaths Per Minute) *Grand Averages:* 27.5 Tries, time of 19 : 10 and therefore 5.1% of stream's runtime, 1.46 DPM (Deaths Per Minute) *Grand Totals:* 1100 Tries, time of 12 : 46 : 53 and therefore 2.02 streams worth of playtime, 1.43 DPM (Deaths Per Minute) *Worlds From Lowest To Highest Time Spent:* 8. Interesting Tidbits: • This is actually the first of the VODs I saw, and then got to the 40 minute mark and realized Doug was on World 8 and had to then backtrack lmao • It should probably be noted that in regards to time, I am definitely not 100% accurate, as the way I track it doesn't account for death screens and the respawn time, so somebody could definitely get that more accurate. Though, I do try to account for as much as I'm able to. • Doug agreed with his past Dscord message self saying he's good at Mario every time he recapped his and Ross' Dscord conversation. Hell yeah. • 44:50 To answer Doug's question here, Ross' time excluding World 8 and cut content was 21 : 28 : 28, and Doug's before this stream was 6 : 40 : 53, meaning Doug has gotten this far in 31.1132% of Ross' time (a little over 3x faster, so Doug's math was close enough). Once again, that is excluding World 8. • In retrospect it would've been fun to check the stats for Doug's warm-ups for the sake of these Tidbit sections but oh well. Oopsie poopsie as it were, whoopsie doopsie if you must. • Since Ross was not here to explain this to you guys himself, I'll do it on his behalf. The Kamek boss fight in Companion Spring Forever was made on accident when Ross wanted to make a similar lava lift section to what he did in Companion Spring 3D and wanted to see what enemies he could add to switch it up. When he put down Kamek, Kamek kept trying to teleport onto the moving platform but then instantly teleporting away (with no collision) because the platform had already moved up into the space he teleported to. Add a shit load more Kameks and suddenly you get a really cool and really threatening-looking Dragon Ball Z instant transmission effect, and a boss fight that encourages moving around and getting rid of any solid non-moving ground, since it is the only ground the Kameks can fully appear and attack you from. • Doug beat Companion Spring Forever in under half of Ross' Try count (41) and under 1/4th of Ross' time (54 : 21). And this level had no checkpoints, so it's a completely even comparison. In another shocking twist of fate, Doug even beat MatPat in this level, who took 25 Tries and 33 : 50. Also he bested Game Grumps but who saw that coming. • Ross had a very funny interaction at the end of Companion Spring Forever where the Kamek behind the axe at the end turned the axe into a Koopa. Ross can't complete the level until he touches the axe, so he kills the Kamek by throwing the Koopa shell at him, but at that exact moment, the axe reappeared and the Koopa shell bounced into it and into the other direction, immediately hitting and killing Ross at the very end of the level. You can find this clip on Ross' channel from the video of the making of this level (he has a playlist of the making of every level in the Super World, it was awesome). • Ross made You Are The Monster as a sort of successor to his other very popular level, "You Are A Monster". Not quite as cool a naming scheme as the Companion Spring series, I know. The original had the same premise; every puzzle requiring the death of Yoshi. However, people very quickly and easily found out ways to beat the level without killing *any* Yoshis. So, in response, Ross made sure that You Are The Monster had no such flaw, Yoshi *must* die. • Doug also completely missed it but the ending sequence of You Are The Monster where Yoshi pronounces you "GUILTY" and sends you into the fiery abyss is direct set-up for the level that follows it, The Monster Cage (though during the making of it Eggalovania was a strong contender for the name). Then, The Monster Cage as a whole is inspired by Ross' idea of having a level-long Yoshi boss fight in UNDERTALE-style arenas where you have to outlast Yoshi as he tries to get his revenge on you and carry out your eternal punishment. There's actually a bit of a recurring theme of revenge in World 8, thematically, at least. Ross really likes his flavor wins in Super RubberRoss World. You can see a lot of small cool details in a lot of the levels that usually lead into the next level. • A chatter, drama_impediment, during You Are The Monster, recommended a Yoshi death count, which would've been a hilarious idea if I hadn't already gotten so far in at that point. Maybe somebody else might do it, who knows. • Doug's character development from Starbomb to The Monster Cage is incredible. He went from turning an easy level into one of the hardest by constantly bashing his heading against the wall and never adapting to the level or changing strategy to making one of the hardest levels much easier by simply remembering and counting the attack patterns of Yoshi in The Monster Cage. It was honestly very cool to see him finally lock in. • 1:31:46 Not inaccurate. Nice job. • The Monster Cage, for comparison, took Ross, Danny & Arnold, Matthew Patthew, and Panga 369 Tries and 7 : 29 : 28, 115 Tries and 1 : 16 : 44, 22 Tries and 22 : 01, and 24 Tries and 18 : 48 respectively. Doug did way better than expected but still took more Tries than MatPat and Panga combined. He also took longer to beat it than he did Companion Spring Forever and You Are The Monster combined. • If I recall (citation needed for this entire bullet point), one of Ross' early levels that blew up in the first game was also a Boss Rush level, with a bunch of different weird boss fight ideas working with what little there was to work with at the time, as I think there were no Koopalings. So, we're maintaining a theme of returning classics in this world, which if I recall Ross very briefly mentioned was the idea behind the level (as well as just generally enjoying when games do boss rushes). We are also maintaining the revenge narrative of this world, with every Koopaling you fought coming back for round 2 in Rubber Rush. • Neat how Doug's performance against Morton's phase of the boss rush steadily got worse. He saw the code at the start and then as time went on he remembered he's not good at coding. It was actually kind of weird how well he did for the first while there. • Doug never fully learning and applying the knowledge of how Iggy's boss fight works, and never realizing that the shell cannons are meant to A) do free damage to Iggy and B) destroy the Chain Chomps that keep you from safely stomping him, is kind of wild. Hilarious though, only person I've seen not understand that one. • On the topic of Gen Z and Gen Alpha slang, if you trace back a lot of what they say (this applies for both) and actually try to do a dive into where it came from, usually it will have started as or even still be something that actually makes sense in context. One thing that does upset me about Gen Alpha slang is the cultural appropriation, I'm a early Zoomer and it's tragic to see something that previously made sense when you know the context get used out of the intended context by people who don't understand what it means, or not even using it in a context just saying it because somehow the word itself has become the joke. This is what transforms "rizz" , "gyatt", and "Ohio" from a simple conjunction of "charisma", a spelled out version of a way that some people say "god damn" when surprised, and a state in the US commonly used in memes with eldritch horrors in them into a word that doesn't seem to even have a meaning now, a noun (meaning ass), and whatever the fuck Ohio is supposed to mean now. And then seeing phrases that you and your generation coined being butchered and considered the next generation's slang as opposed to yours. But then again, this has always happened, and older generations have always looked down on the slang of the generation after, the difference being that now people have the ability to, with a Google search or two, actually understand what the kids are saying. But "no cap" and "on god" were absolutely Gen Z slang, people been saying things like that since like 2018. • Unrelated but the way chat was talking in the latter parts of the stream really made me want to skibidi myself in the ohio frfr ong no cap on livvy dunne • "Ripping ass" means both sharting and something going hard, depending on context. Just because you haven't heard one of the two use cases doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Some of y'all haven't talked to enough stoners and it shows, depending on where they're from they you will use either of the two or both. • Seeing chat counting how many times Doug has been negative threw me back to ye olden times when Ross was making the world and we were all in chat keeping a live count of the deaths and attempts. Only real ones remember the immeasurable strength of Pineapple Ross. • 4 Tries of Doug's total were from Failboat playing. I think I missed the part that explains how Failboat got here but cool. *For some reason I get "Returned error" whenever I try to put the full comment here so I'm splitting it into the reply.*

Interesting Tidbits continued: • Ross actually used the exact same strategy as Doug on Roy. It was completely intentional. I recall he ended up having strategies for pretty much each Koopa Kid by the end, except Lemmy, because he's a weird guy. So basically what I'm saying is Doug could've solved pretty much every boss but he's a little goofy and was huffing 100% copium. Doug did, however, manage to adapt and apply the following of Ross' strategies: Roy's and Bowser Jr.'s. Now here's a comprehensive list of all of Doug's strategic blunders: The Larry part actually is quite difficult, but Ross would stay on the cannon on Larry's back until he gets plopped down on a lift and would try his best not to stray from the top lift and let Larry come to him. For Morton Ross would stall in the air on the way down by ground pound canceling all the way down, skipping 1 or 2 Piranha Plant cycles and making the attack patterns very consistent, as well as making the opening volley pretty much all fire into the sky (not where Mario is). For Iggy, Doug was close, but didn't commit, Ross would consistently never enter the room with Iggy unless he had no choice, he took the P switches and stepped on them while sitting in the same exact spot in front of the top shell cannon, allowing him to get a shellmet and also allowing the shells to pass over Mario once he has the shellmet, ensuring maximum damage to Iggy and minimum damage to Mario. For Ludwig Doug ended up understanding the strategy but once again not fully committing, Ross stayed on the cannon no matter what, never leaving, only ever dropping down a few pixels to touch Ludwig's head and immediately hop back on, it was a very efficient and consistent method. Speaking of efficient and consistent, Ross would almost always kill Wendy by dunking her in the lava within a few seconds of entering her room. Lemmy: ??? Don't die. • Failboat left right as Doug started the 100th Try of Rubber Rush, how fun is that? • It took Doug 144 Tries and a time of 3 : 03 : 40 to reach the checkpoint of Rubber Rush. Meaning it took only 26 Tries and a time of 21 : 29 to beat Bowser Jr. and therefore the level once he got the checkpoint. • It took longer (and more Tries) for Doug to beat Rubber Rush than all of World 2. In fact, it took longer (and more Tries) for Doug to beat Rubber Rush than all of World 1 and 2 combined (you can even throw in World 3 if you're going solely off time spent). Rubber Rush took more Tries than any individual world in this Super World, same with regards to time. This is obviously excluding World 8. • Before Take A Bow Sir, Doug's time for World 8 was 4 : 35 : 00, somehow a nice round number. I thought that was neat. • Rubber Rush single-handedly raised the Super World's average Tries, time, and stream percentage from 19.95, 12 : 16, and 3.6% to 23.79, 17 : 13, and 4.7% respectively (of course not counting Take A Bow Sir). • For comparison, Ross, Arin Handsome (with assistance from Ross), MatPat, and Panga beat Rubber Rush in 365 Tries and 6 : 47 : 47 (that being said Ross has First Tried Rubber Rush on multiple occasions since then, like in the Game Grumps playthrough when he three-shotted it after hours of Arin suffering), 229 Tries and 2 : 49 : 21 , 23 Tries and 25 : 45, and 39 Tries and 35 : 57 respectively. So far my hypothesis going into this whole thing is correct, Doug is in the middle ground of them all, beating out Ross and the Game Grumps but being thoroughly outclasses by god gamer MatPat and professional kaizo expert Panga. Don't ask how MatPat outperformed Panga, he did that a lot in his playthrough, we don't question it, we all clowned on him when he previewed a few levels before the world released but once he started playing through it he showed us how unusually and unexpectedly good he was at the game (and World 8 was done live on stream in one sitting so nothing was edited out that was 100% unadulterated gaming). Truly the big question I was asking going into this was whether Doug would be able to beat MatPat and be take his second place spot (second to Panga who barely did better statistically, all the details on the spreadsheet), but alas t'was not to be. • If I recall, Ross made Take A Bow Sir the way that it is, with Bowser chasing you and breaking the level, because that was the final level of New Super Mario Bros. Wii, though I'd be willing to say that this version was cooler design-wise. • I should've had the foresight to track how many attempts Doug took, after choosing to "not be a coward" and reset after reaching the checkpoint, to reach the checkpoint again. Alas. Maybe somebody else will do it. I did not have the idea until I was already like 20 minutes further in. (Though I do know for sure that Doug would've been far under 170 Tries, Rubber Rush's total, if he had actually gone to the boss when he could've. Though I *can* say that Doug made it to the boss on Try 164.) • Doug painstakingly getting all the red coins (first person I remember to have done it), going to the shop, and somehow not only not remembering it from a previous level, but somehow also not getting anything from it, and *somehow* even dying *in* the shop, needs to be studied. Perhaps this is why he will never beat the 2D platforming allegations. • For comparison, Ross, the Video Game Boy (with *heavy* assistance from Ross), Matticus Patticus, and Panga beat Take A Bow Sir in 651 Tries and 6 : 38 : 26, 173 Tries and 1 : 33 : 58, 25 Tries and 22 : 18, and 34 Tries and 22 : 34 respectively. MatPat outperformed Panga again, don't worry about it. Doug has once again been shown to be the middle man, being ranked third out of 5 in both time and Tries. I was in fact right. Also, it's fun that the Grumps took exactly 1 more attempt than Doug to beat Take A Bow Sir, although most of their gameplay of the final level was Ross playing on their behalf, so really Doug beat Ross with "assistance" from Arnold by 1 Try. • Take A Bow Sir taking only 2 more Tries than Rubber Rush for Doug is kind of crazy. It's both unexpected because Doug was admittedly very good at this kind of level, and expected because pretty much everyone else that played this world had more trouble on Take A Bow Sir. Congrats Doug, you're an anomaly fr ong • Doug beat Take A Bow Sir in roughly 46.5% the time of Rubber Rush. Under half, that's crazy. As a matter of fact Rubber Rush was 55.4% of his total time for World 8, and 26.8% of his total playtime. Over half of World 8 and over a quarter of the whole Super World is delaware af no cap en guarde • 48.3% of Doug's final total playtime was World 8. On a similar note 40.6% of his total Tries were from World 8. Which, as an aside, his final Try count being a round number like 1,100 is kinda cursed but I'm into it for eel on cod no carp. • 2.02 streams worth of time was spent playing the levels, meaning that there is almost an entire stream, 98% of one at least, that is just random tangents, spontaneous bits, and five minute coding adventures. Fuckin' love it here. • The fact that The Munchies, possibly the easiest level in the Super World, made it onto Doug's top 10 highest Try counts is crazy. • Only 1 level in the entire Super World was beat by Doug on the First Try, Castle Breakout. The fact that that's the only one baffles me a little, most everyone First Tries at least Lead The Lads. • Doug did have a lower final average DPM than the Game Grumps (the only other ones I was actively maintaining DPM for), as Doug's was 1.46 and the Grumps' had 1.7. Significantly less dead Marios, or rather in this case, Luigis. • For the big comparison Ross, Game Grumps, MatPat, and Panga beat Super RubberRoss World in 3305 Tries and 43 : 52 : 35 (~3984 and ~52 : 03 : 36 if you include old levels and cut content), 2155 Tries and 20 : 20 : 07, 442 Tries and 6 : 17 : 11, and 403 Tries and 4 : 43 : 21 respectively. Doug landed squarely in the middle of all of them with 1100 tries and 12 : 46 : 53. • Final verdict: Doug is perfectly mediocre at 2D platformers. • I was there, not when the stream happened or three months ago when the VODs dropped, right now right this second I was there. For real only in Mississipi, en guarde no cap • Though, truly I wish I *was* there, though I fully expect that if I did I probably would've been banned by Doug for existing or smth I hear he does that a lot. • If ever this all ends up being turned into a KZbin video, I will be there. This is a threat *and* a promise. • Thank you to Fizzle_Drizzle for once again being a techno-wizard and figuring out why the comments wouldn't post (there were so so many issues). • One last time, the First Try spreadsheet for more stats on Ross, MatPat, Game Grumps, PangaeaPanga, and of course DougDoug playing this world can be found somewhere in the Nintendo channel of the RubberNinja Dscord server. And now I can go back into retirement and continue playing an unhealthy amount of board games on Tabletop Sim and building a dwarf mountain base in my boys' Minecraft Realm. Peace.

Douglas Douglas talks about bullet hells being something that's just about how much you can pay attention to at once, which ironically is the opposite of what bullet hells work like. It's how much can you utterly ignore, and learning to feel and understand trajectories.

Chat finally saying that Doug is good at 2D platformers is like when the strict Dad character in a movie is finally proud of their son.

Just wanna mention in here that the streams alone took 17 hours, 108 minutes and 98 seconds. That means just the streams alone are 18 hours, 49 minutes and 38 seconds so, DougDoug didn't need all the time at all. That's pretty impressive if you ask me.
@KaleidosXXI5 ай бұрын
It's really not. Ross giving him Alpharad's time as the point of reference for a 'decent' clear time was beyond generous since neither Alpharad or Doug are good at Mario Maker. As far as Mario Maker stuff goes, Ross and his social circle are just kinda in their own little bubble where they have no sense of perspective.

@@KaleidosXXITheres no real definition of "good" but my idea here is that I reckon it would take a new player quite a while to get where Doug is in terms of skill level, another thing is TTS constantly talking to Doug, and him constantly talking which drastically decreases your ability to play

The TTS AI voices were funny at first but they got old fast. I probably wouldn't have watched the rest of the VOD if they had stayed on the whole time (if the way people were using them didn't change). 3:05:45 Doug legit forgot that he got raided, lol. (Also, I like how chat started asking him "what are your thoughts on " questions to bait him into negative statements, lol)
