They want them to be able to live and figure out what needs to be sorted in their lives without unnecessary pressure. For some, chores would be too much. That's my attempt to shed some light on the issue raised by your question. Do other children suffer and still do chores? Yes, and worse probably. But they are not Alicia and Josh's kids.
