Now that I'm old, the passage of time becomes precious, memories become dear and the nearness of eternity becomes a comfort. My heart is so touched by this song. It goes back it seems so many centuries and yet just too yesterday. Life is long and strange but God is available to us. I hear him in this lovely song. Times long ago. I think I will listen to it several times today and I've sent it to my six children. Such a lovely song holistic healing and meaning.

This was just a song that happened at New Years Eve parties when I was young. Today, my 70th birthday, this song becomes increasingly bittersweet with each year we grow older, as we look around and see so few family and friends still with us. Memories become increasingly cherished as the people those memories are about no longer grace our lives with their presence. And this has now become a song of great meaning as we are now surrounded by far more memories than friends and family. Hold tight to those memories as a reminder of what those absent family and friends gave you, making you what you are today.

My Grandfather is from the Isle Of Skye. Dougie MacLean is easily the most inspirational, traditional and yet most original Scottish artist out of many great celtic artist of these years. Thank you Robert Burns for such a great poem put to such great ancient Scottish tunes and thank you DOUGIE MacLean for always another great performance to stir the emotions and boil the blood.

This reminds me of my father. Every Christmas and New Year, I miss him more than usual. He was a Scot (Glasgow) and passed away 12 years ago.
