Hopefully get let out again before Christmas, although I'll be ice breaking even on the sea lochs if this cold keeps up! Even decent thermals only go so far 🙂

👏great wee fishing adventure Doug ....I’ve never done well at the Garvellachs , just the odd decent Pollock on long leader and very slow retrieve . Some great footage 👍

Hi Tam, this was my first try at the Garvellachs and it was very slow going. I think next time I might make sure I have some ragworm as that should guarantee a few wrasse if nothing else. Certainly an impressive set of rocks when you get close to them, and I wouldn't have fancied living there!
@tamlyon4435 Жыл бұрын
@@Corkwing-DougK I was using ragworm and occasionally sand eel on a ten foot leader and a wee ball weight ....and caught more than friends using lead heads with fire tails etc. Like you I wouldn’t fancy living there 😁 A wee tip that works for me weeding out the bigger Pollock is a glow bead at the top of the hook 👍...tight lines .

Hi Doug, what an excellent advert for small boat fishing in general. Great mackerel shots, with some nice pollock to show off & better weather than we've had down here on the NE coast. Some high pressure forecast into early December too, let's hope so. Thanks for posting.

Hi Ash, I promise you the weather up here has been pretty foul of late - this trip was a late summer session that has just taken ages to pull together, for various reasons. As you know, I really enjoy just having a wander round the west coast with a little fishing as a bonus, and this little cruise was perfect. If I could sort myself a reliable supply of ragworm I'd probably have pulled in a larger range of species too - the ground looked perfect for wrasse in several areas, for example.

Great vid Doug, amazing sport with the Pollock on the light spinning gear. Great scenery and weather on your trip. Keep up the great vids, n tight lines

Hi Garry, the pollack were good fun all right but there were rather too many small ones in most of the spots I tried. Happily you're right - great scenery and weather were the real highlights of the trip. Roll on next summer!

Thanks! I'm bound to be out in Etive over the winter chasing peace and tiddlers, or perhaps off Kerrera looking for something a bit bigger 🙂👍

Incredible! And that underwater footage was even more incredible. Thankyou for sharing your adventure

Glad you enjoyed it! I think the mackerel were herding baitfish back against the cliff walls at Morvern, and there were certainly loads about. As for the footage, I was just lucky to have fairly clear water and decent light as well as plenty fish. I managed something similar a few years back in Loch Leven, but the mackerel were the smallest I've ever encountered - literally the size of a large minnow.

@@Corkwing-DougK you are very blessed to live in such an Incredible part of the world. Loved watching all your videos and it lead to me spending a couple of nights sleeping in my boat at anchor last summer. If you ever find yourself on Anglesey, give me a shout!

Another great video doug, loving all your videos, wasnt that lighthouse at Lismore, me and my mate went Lismore in 2021, is it any good fishing off the rocks/coast on lismore do you know at all? we only fished off the old pier at Lismore.
@Corkwing-DougK Жыл бұрын
Well, you're certainly right about the lighthouse but I've never really fished Lismore so can't say much about the fishing. The Navionics web app will show you there's quite a bit of deep water along the coastline and I guess any deeper spot you can access will be worth a try. I'd expect the usual suspects - rays, doggies and maybe spurdog on the bottom and pollack from the rocky ground. I'd be rather surprised if there isn't anything there, but I've never set foot on the island myself!

Doug .Great vid .I fished the same area till I sold my boat last year.The corrywrecken was an exciting place to fish! The island you stopped at , opposite Fladda lighthouse we caught loads of coalies off the point. Stunning scenery. We stayed at Craohb Haven.
@Corkwing-DougK2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching, and interesting to see more coalies about - I just wish we could get them a bit bigger as they would certainly liven up the fishing. I've only been through Corryvreckan once, and even on a very small tide you could really feel the underlying power of the sea. I wouldn't fancy my chances in anything other than perfect conditions!

Hi I know etive is almost fresh water on top but what do you do about your cars back end to stop it rusting away? Thanks
@Corkwing-DougK2 жыл бұрын
Nothing 🙂 Never buy a car I've owned! Seriously, I really try and avoid dipping the car if I can avoid it, and never let it get up to the wheel hubs. I don't think I've ever had the exhaust bubbling away underwater either. Trailers are a different matter though - I still avoid dipping the hubs if possible, but you have to accept that you're going to get problems at some stage. One major reason for moving from a Warrior to the Orkney was the pain involved in keeping a braked trailer roadworthy!

Hi Doug do you pay to launch from this spot
@Corkwing-DougK2 жыл бұрын
Hi John - this is Kelly's pier at Taynuilt and launching is free. Pretty easy at HW but very shallow at LW (and be prepared for huge masses of weed on the beach after a winter storm). At the end of the pier there is a pile of rocks just to your right as you leave, so stick close to the pier wall to avoid them. Access to the beach isn't from the signposted carpark, but another 30 -40 yards further down the road.

I think its such a shame that we catch macks on multiple hooks, they fight like stink and are worthy of single catch, same as Brown trout, different fight Great attitude .
@Corkwing-DougK9 күн бұрын
I guess most of us are catching them mainly for bait, so get what we need as quickly as we can. You're quite right though, as they are great fun on light gear - and somewhere like Etive where you can catch both mackerel and trout at the same time is even better! I keep promising myself to try a fly rod but I've not yet got around to it. Cheers, Doug
