It’s based on the AD-2/4 Skyraider. The Skyraiders are very big, and this thing is slightly bigger and heavier

Holy molly!! Just look at the size of that props!! It was so HUGE!! Its bigger and longer than the lady standing next to it!! Imagine the air turbulences when both props turning at full speed!!
@woska74935 жыл бұрын
Sweet machine. Powered by the Allison T40 which was basically two T38's mated together driving the contra-rotating props developing some 5,500 shaft HP. Max speed of 492MPH @40,000 Ft. Thanks for sharing.

Fun fact the McDonald Douglas FX84-H Thunderscreech rocked a T40 that connected to dual drive shafts that ran right beside the pilot’s cockpit before going into a front gearbox. That’s the reason why the Thunderscreech vibrated so much.
@scootergeorge70893 ай бұрын
@@thejdmguru621 - The reason was, the tips of the prop were supersonic. Like a continuous sonic boom. Loudest single engine plane ever.
@thejdmguru6213 ай бұрын
@@scootergeorge7089 Yes, but I wasn’t referring to that.
@scootergeorge70893 ай бұрын
@@thejdmguru621 - No doubt that tip speed also was the cause of the vibration.

Damn, What an aircraft! Amazing! It's so huge. Can't imagine seeing this plane flying, that would be a dream. Maybe a RC version? I can't even imagine standing in front of it as you did, WOW (little bit jealous tho).

Beautiful beast, the Douglas A2D-1 Skyshark looks similar to the British Fairey Gannet AEW.3. It's a good bet the Americans and Brits were sharing their design information when they built these planes.

During one of the testflights the propellors wrenched themselves of the plane and the whole gearbox went with it , the pilot windscreen was full of oil but he survived.

I hope you do a video of the X-13 that is there too. This thing looks like it has a couple of C-130H props stuck on it! Good video. I'm going to be building a model of this soon,, so good reference also.
