It is called Yellow Rouge, and can be found at most jewelry supply shops.

can you use the same process to polish delrin gears? or does this only apply to brass gears?

Not sure, never tried polishing delrin. Might have to try it.

@@DougNapierJewelryMonk that would be awesome. hope you do and post up a video about it. many builds even in club racing use a delrin idler gear now, not all brass and not all delrin gears. the mix seems overall better IMO. always wondered if I should do any sanding or polishing on them to get any more speed, reduce chatter etc.

Why are you polishing the sides of the spur gear, this is only place that needs no special treatment the side do not rub or eea4 on anything. Windage losses will be nothing compared to the other frictional losses. I suppose it does look “prettier”. It is in fact the gear teeth face themselves that may need some attention to correct machine marking, . The axle you cleaned seems pitted. In some areas even after burnishing, and pitted. The “coloured” surface you remove is often a carbon treatment that may have lubricating or anti corrosion action.

David, I guess mine don’t hover, it makes a little contact with the top plate and the clamp.

@@DougNapierJewelryMonk Nice work. The commenter above may not realize this is an HO pancake application, as he is calling the idler a spur gear. Doug, Dan at Dash said you have a tutorial on setting the chassis rivets with a roll pin. Could you point me to that? I'm using his electricals to restore some old Aurora chassis. Thanks!

@@413x398 Thanks. I did a video tutorial on Facebook earlier, and intend to create a whole video series, as well as the tools needed to do the whole job, all I need is a little more hours in my day..... :) Dash parts are great to rebuild worn out or broken chassis, I have done hundreds, and never have an issue. TJetClub.com is where the video series and tools will live once I get them completed.

@@DougNapierJewelryMonk Thanks for the reply. I don't have Facebook, so I guess I'll check your website here and there. I found a couple videos on roll pin punches, so I guess I'll figure it out. Keep the faith!
