This is so counter-intuitive it just blows my mind because I've always wanted thicker hair that had the weight and the sleekness of hair with extensions in. This is so weird to me.. I almost never let my hair stylist cut layers or cut into the hair so i can retain thickness in the ends which btw I never achieve anyway. You're making me question everything about the haircuts I've been getting lol.

The Frankie diet/secret technique is called : “thinning” out your hair. talented hair stylists do it with normal hair cutting scissors like Frankie does whereas less confident and less experienced hair stylists do it with thinning shears (which makes hair look poofy and leaves it with split ends) For all the people who think this is too expensive because Doutzen is getting hers from a celebrity hairstylist: I have been getting this “hair diet” from my local Asian hair salon for the last 15 years. It is affordable and if you ask around, you might be able to find someone who can do it closer than you think. Tip: what kind of scissors they choose will tell you whether you should trust them with your hair.

I got awful breakage and split ends and fairy knots from thinning out with normal scissors. I have ringlety wavy-curly hair prone to frizz. I cut it myself now. Never take more than 5 minutes to detangle in the shower now, never had more healthy, shiny hair. I cut it once a year with in between trims. Hairdressers want to make money and have a job. I want healthy hair so I avoid them. Thinning is never! a good choice if you want truly healthy hair, especially if it's wavy or curly.

Jennifer Vo yes “normal” looking scissors are the ones you want. Thinning shears can be identified very easily and those you don’t want. They look like scissors with a thin toothed comb attached to them. If you google it you will be able to see the difference pretty fast.

Doutzen, I love so many things about you, but especially your approach to life and your wisdom. That being said, I think you should note that 'the hair diet' is something that might be great for people with very thick hair or just a lot of hair. Your hairdresser 'thins' your hair to take out weight, great for people blessed with beautiful thick hair, but the worst idea for someone with fine or thin hair who is always wanting it to looking thicker and healthier. I only note this as many fans will rush to their hairdresser and ask them to take out weight when that might not be the best thing for them or their hair! But I love you and think you're brilliant, please keep making videos!

Thanks Doutzen, great experiences as well with Frankie as with Christian. Yes I remember long time ago in Friesland, 2 kids on the bike, Groceries and pouring rain most of the time! Recently discovered this channel. Admittedly, I knew little about Doutzen, but after binge watching all the videos, I'm now a fan. The family are adorable, her ethos and way of life strikes a beautiful balance between glamour and homely. I've been to Amsterdam so many times but never explored the country. What Frankie does has been an actual technique for years I think. At least my hairdresser has been doing it on me the last 10 years (i think). I've been going there since the first time I got a haircut (age 2/3?). Although I have lived in 3 different countries in the last 10years I always get my hair cut back home. I really like your content although I am not into make-up and fashion. I love creativeness and I love nature. All the best to you and your family.

I was a print model in the 90s in New York and Christiaan was the hair dresser at this photo shoot I did for Microsoft. He was such a genuinely sweet person! Frankie seems like such a sweetie too and I instantly liked her because of her tooth gap!! So wish she would cut my hair! :)

My hair dresser cuts my hair in kind of a similar way but uses a razor to cut my hair. It stays thick at the top where I need volume and lays beautifully at the bottoms with a little curl cuz the hair is lighter. Great video Doutzen!

I always wanted to see how Doutzen got her hair done because I'm like her hair was always eye catching to me--especially in VS Shows. Not sure how long she has been getting this type of cut done, but it was interesting to see. I personally would never get this done because I prefer a full, thick, blunt cut with little to no layering at all. But that's just me.
