My first DEVO show was Saturday, December 19, 1981 at the California Theater in San Diego, California. "DOVE...The Band of Love" opened. What a fucking mind-bending experience...!!!

Probably the best live band of all time. No one before or since has done this. DEVO is STILL the future.

It's not you or your device, it's the video repeating without audio after 7:00. A great 7 minutes of archive it was, though, thanks for posting it.

I love how synched the guys were when playing, just awesome.

They are their own warm up band and get paid for it.

I saw them at the Long Beach Arena New Years eve 1979. The message was "Stay Awake in The Eighties Spuds, It's All About to Happen". They were right and it's keeps happening. My favorite song that evening was "You Gotta Serve Somebody".
@vincentramirez4540 Жыл бұрын
I was there 3rd row center and Gotta serve was also my favorite from Dove,,,hellava gig✌️😎

I was there, up near the top. My pockets full of plastic confetti, I rained it down on the crowd all night! Word is that X was pissed that DEVO was getting paid twice, once for DOVE, that X got revenge by eating all the craft services food, leaving none for DEVO. Saw Wild Man Fischer at the gig!

was there at the 1979 show in Long Beach, DOVE, X, DEVO combo, ground breaking!

So far ahead of their time that they'd be a huge cutting edge hit this very day if they popped out of a time machine exactly as they first appeared to the mass of spuds in 1981.
@GrantTarredus3 жыл бұрын
Your point is correct, but even more correct than you thought because Devo actually formed in 1973. In 1978 their first album was released and they appeared on live network TV for the first time (on Saturday Night Live). But again, your point is absolutely right.
@InfotainmentScan2 жыл бұрын
Nah, they'd be ignored even worse today, for a few different reasons. And it's not like our popular music has reached such a high level compared to the 70s.

Coincidences abound! I got turned on to "Reflections from the Firepool" back in '89 or whatever it was that it first came out. I also have a live VHS tape that they had out around that same time. Really great stuff.

not likely. sounds more like the Long Beach Arena, and they were much more likely to have a pro film crew out in So Cal than some dirt floored hillbilly hoedown joint out in bum fuck east Jesus fer Chrissakes !

Agreed. Unfortunately now they are aged and somewhat... stout. Their last album was fucking fantastic and they still have incredible energy but they just don't got that young sex deprived sex chic no more. But who gives a shit about that when you have the music?

I believe it's from the Devo Live 1980 DualDisc. The second half of this video is just a repeat of the first half without audio, for some reason.
