Listen to 7 dove calls from Southern Africa. As with all doves, they puff their throat up and call with a closed beak. The Afrikaans names: Red-eyed Dove is Grootringduif, Laughing Dove is Lemoenduif, Cape Turtle Dove is Gewone tortelduif, African Mourning Dove is Rooioogtortelduif, Emerald-spotted Wood Dove is Grownvlekduifie, Tambourine Dove is Witborsduifie and Namaqua Dove is Namaquaduifie.

@@Baltasarmk I live in the US now since 2010. It's very difficult to get a visa unless you have a special talent or a job offer or enough money to start a business in the USA. You could get a study visa easily, or come on a tourist visa. I was engaged to someone here, came on a fiance visa, then applied for my green card once I married him.

In the film Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid, about an hour and a 29 minutes through, you can hear a call like the red-eyed dove's, although my resources say it's exclusively an African dove. Is there a species with a similar call in New Mexico, where the film was shot in 1973? A Bird Watching HQ site mentions 7 doves/pigeons in New Mexico: mourning dove (not Streptopelia decipiens), rock dove/pigeon, Eurasian collared dove, white-winged dove, band-tailed pigeon, Inca dove, common ground dove - no red-eyed doves. Thanks
