You should also have explained the risks involved and most probable problems one may face. I am planning to do the tour by my SantaFe SUV in the month of May 24 with family . 10 years ago when I did this tour on bike , I missed "so morri " lake for example and many others as you explained I began to realize.

Thank you for your informative vlog. Need your advice. Are road and weather conditions suitable in early April for doing a road journey between Jammu to Leh-Ladakh and down via Manali back to Delhi. Have to be in Ladakh in mid-April to see the Apricot blossoms in Sham Valley. Trip planned in own SUV (petrol, automatic, front wheel drive, fully loaded with 4 persons and their baggage). Some have told me that certain passes (Zojila?) could be un-motorable due to snow or slush. But I want second opinion. Many thanks.
@discoverwithdheeraj
@discoverwithdheeraj 10 күн бұрын
No Sanjeev, you cannot travel in April.. this year as well even though Srinagar Leh highway was cleared in April but it took well into May to stabilize and open for one-way.. it was well towards end of May highway was opened for two way traffic and Manali Leh got opened for one way traffic around third week of May.. so April is something you should surely avoid.

Dheeraj ji, thank you so much for such informative videos. We (me and my friend) are planning to visit Leh on 22nd April. Kindly suggest which road trip shall we plan, Srinagar or Manali. I think Manali will still be closed by that time. While returning, we have already booked flights. Also, if u could suggest on travel mode also mainly taxi. Thanks in advance!

Thank you Govind bhai.. I do not think that Manali Leh will be open and safe, both, by that time of the year. So, Srinagar to Leh is your best bet. In case there is not much snow this year and if it is safe to travel during April from Manali to Leh then only do it. Otherwise, follow Srinagar to Leh route both sides. You can refer to taxi drivers of Ladakh here: devilonwheels.com/list-of-taxi-drivers-for-ladakh-srinagar-leh-manali/

First two weeks of October are OK to travel in general on Srinagar Leh Highway. Before leaving Sonamarg check weather updates of the region and in case there is no snowfall you can continue to Kargil and further to Leh. 1-2 times snowfall happen in Spetember and October but that snow clears aways quickly in general.

It is monsoon time in general up there in North and at some parts of Manali - Leh Highway (like before Baralacha La) and Srinagar - Leh Highway (like before Kargil) you might need to face monsoon hassles but once you get closer to Ladakh, then Ladakh being rain shadow region is least affected by monsoon rains. Landslides or slush or road blocks are pretty common in the month of monsoons but these landslides are cleared in a day or two unless there is a very major one. Again there are ALWAYS risks of traveling in mountains in the rainy season. No one can predict anything but it is a well known fact about the risks of traveling in mountains Having said that, rains does reach Ladakh nowadays but in general, it is overcast days or in form of light drizzles. I will suggest you go thru my video on 10 Tips for a Trip to Ladakh in Monsoons at the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ioLNc6prpah6rpo

Hello Abhishek bhai.. Well, at the glimpse of it, your plan is pretty hectic. Day 5: It is very long, mostly you will reach way late by evening so forget doing whatever you have written there. Ideally you should split at Patnitop Day 8,9: Good to take rest for couple of days Day 10: Turtuk you already know that will need one more day Day 12: It will be very long too and considering it will be early season with Manali Leh Highway MAY NOT be OPEN at all or may have timing restrictions, better keep a buffer day there to be ready to split the journey. All this is also considering you are OK with such long hours of ride or drive and have stamina to do it for back to back days mostly. Plus like I said Manali Leh Highway will be open or not or safe or not, time can only tell.
