William Butler Yeats was and is one of the most influential English language poets of the last 150 years. His otherworldy intuition gave voice to the disposessed native storytelling tradition of Ireland.
Yeats understood the threefold connection from which the folk tradition derives. The natural world, insight and expression which comes so naturally to the western Gael. Preserved in the byways of the west is a philosophical tradition as old as the hills.
Yeats was enthralled by it to his dying day.
