It’s amazing. All those flowers evolved in that garden and have looked after themselves for the last 150 years.

Excellent presentation! The garden is truly beautiful, I love the look of a non formal garden. The greenhouse is the stuff dreams are made of! I’m surprised knowing how little Darwin knew about some of these species that he was able to keep the plant alive. Knowing what we know now about orchids and sun drops and pitcher plants, they are not easy plants to keep alive. He must’ve had some green thumb! I would love to read his journals concerning gardening, if he kept any.

Truly enjoyed this video! The garden is phenomenal. It was great seeing this side of one of my favorite theorists. I didn't know Darwin was a family guy 🤭

"Both came from very privileged backgrounds" perhaps.... perhaps even the *same* background... Hmmmm. (The phrasing here just made me laugh is all. Thanks for the tour!)

The phrase, not uncommon here, simply means they're rich & posh, & is suitable for an educational/promo video with a global multi-age audience. How would you phrase it?
@ranthropologist
@ranthropologist Жыл бұрын
@@DickHolman I fully understand the phrase - I study history and anthropology, don't worry. I just found the phrasing amusing because they were cousins, so of course they have a similar background. Like I explained in my postscript, no big deal, just amusing is all.

If I'm not mistaken, didn't Darwin marry his really close cousin?🤨

I recommend reading G. K. Chesterton's book "Orthodoxy", who hated Darwin's theory with a passion. A very enlightening read from the author of Father Brown.
