'Down In the Willow Garden', also known as 'Rose Connely', has a long and interesting history. Hailing from Ireland, and known to have been popularised by the settlers of the Appalachian mountains, the song was stumbled upon and documented by Cecil Sharp in 1918 while travelling through North Carolina. Accounts of the song exist dating back as far as 1811, with many versions sharing a similar theme and tune.
