zorro kitty566 it's kind of like a "head voice" on a boy. If you sing where your range is most comfortable, that's your chest voice, but when you go higher until you break into a different register, that's head voice. With boys the break is more intense a lot of the time

Just weighing in here: Head Voice and Falsetto are not the same thing. With head voice, the vocal cords are still connected. In falsetto, they are not. You can add extra resonance into head voice, or mix head resonance with chest voice vocal chord connection for a "mixed" tone. You can't do either of those with falsetto. What Kevin was using here was head voice, not falsetto (to be precise, when he first starts singing he is using chest voice or a chest dominant mix, and then he switches to pure head voice). Just clearing up the confusion.

Darryn Lee it could be, but I think that it was more because he (& Avi), allowed them to have such fantastic beats & the uninitiated just take it for granted! But, they would absolutely miss him if he were to leave… Kirstie was equally underrated as well, I think. In fact everyone except Mitch and Scott, were not as venerated by the general public. We Pentaholics each have our favourite - Kevin has always been mine - but I'm sure that a lot of us, just REALLY LOVE the fact that this is 21st century A Cappella and done So Well! Kevin is a founder and integral member of the group and, even if no one else sees his worth, you can bet your boots that the PTX team have never underestimated it. 🙂

Vanessa Smith LOL. I agree with you about Kirstie, but not Scott! I think that now that she's shown everyone (including PTX) that she can kick ass as a solo artist, she needs to be given (or take), more lead roles in their songs. Scott and Mitch are always the main leads. Pentaholics go crazy over Mitch's vocals, especially in Aha & Scott's vocals, especially in Cracked. Kirstie needs a lead like those, that show off what her voice can do… Rather Be and Water, may be her lead songs, but they're not 'special' in the same way. They are straight forward, no nonsense, lovely leads. Avi's solos were always showcased - because he always sung them on his own, with no special vocal backing - Standing By and Light in the Hallway. You got to hear that he sings Baritone, so that's special. So, in my opinion, it has always been Kirstie and Kevin who have been underrated, whilst Mitch and Scott who have been venerated. Kirstie and Kevin only get to briefly shine in their 'Evolution' songs. Beyoncé for Kirstie and Michael Jackson for Kevin. Oh! And now Imagine for Kevin! But, as you can tell from all of the comments, we forgot that he could sing that high! 😄

The amount of various things that Kevin can do, just shows how hard he diligently works at it! He wasn't a singer before PTX, Scott encouraged him to pursue it, he did and now he's making history (& music)! When he decides to do all this with an original K.O. score, we will be Blown Away! This is just another step on his onward trajectory! I'm SO impressed by and pleased for him! This has been my favourite solo project by the Pentatonix group this year! They've all been interesting, but (dare I say it…) ordinary!!! This. This is totally unique! No one else is doing this! And the way that he was able to do this live, means that he can do it in front of a live audience! So… tour dates! I would buy a ticket! The only thing is, I'm in the UK! His talent is amazing. There's no denying that. But there's something else at play here, and that's hard work. Many, many people may be just as talented, but how many take the hours and hours of creative endeavour, practice, development? He had to create each level of the music, and work them all together as a cohesive whole, and then he had to practice it over and over to get it to this level of genius. Musicianship such as this starts off with undoubted talent, but what lifts it into the stratosphere is the commitment, the passion, the heart, the determination that are the bedrock of character.

PURE ART! So many people out there are trying to play the songs as good as possible by copying every single thing in the song. Basically, they are trying to do what the song's writer/singer already did which is why the remake and those so called covers are never good. This isn’t my first time watching this video, and it won’t be my last, I just felt the urge to comment this time around. I love the distortion on the cello, it gives it such a great sound, and a big sound! I also really enjoy being able to hear his breathing on the mic, as it adds a sense of intimacy and rawness to the vocals that is often edited out by artists. I wish I could do anything half as good as he is able to do any one of these things, but the fact that he can do ALL of these different things at such a high level, and in ONE TAKE, shows how incredibly talented he truly is. Between the looping, controlling all the tracks to play different ones at different times, the cello, singing, piano, drumming, and beatboxing, it’s just incredible to watch. I’d love to see many more covers done like this one, but I have no doubt it’s time consuming to write all the different parts, practice them, and then do a one-take of it without making an error. I’d love to see him collaborate with other big artists but maybe have him do this stuff while the other artists provides their original vocals alongside his. The possibilities are endless and I have no doubt that a music video would be massively successful if it was done in this style with an added big name artist doing their own vocals as well! I have no doubt that his parents are incredibly proud of him. Hell, I’m incredibly proud of him! It’s remarkable how successful and talented he is, and how far he has come, but he still deserves more recognition as far as I’m concerned. That being said, I don’t know if you’ll ever see this, but I really hope you and yours are doing well, and I sincerely wish you all the best. Take care of yourself, Kevin.
