I am new to trapping with steel traps...I have only caught one coyote...How old does the cooking oil have to be, before U use it...And what flavor is best...I am so glad U mention the catfish bait...I quit using it...Though it didn't work...I have NO help...Just watch videos for the last 2 weeks solid....Trial and error is just Hell...Glad your closer to Louisiana...where are U located in Oklahoma ? I have a Hay farm and just trying to catch all praetors...Trying to help the turkeys and deer fawns...Enjoyed your video...Thank You Steve.....

Hey Steve, just used cooking oil works. The best stuff I used was left over from cooking turkey on Thanksgiving. I'm in east central Oklahoma south of Tulsa I learned by watching videos and picking older trappers brains on the Trapperman forum. You should make an account. Beware the guy that runs it is the son of the guy that made it, he will grill you for personal information before he approves you. If you don't answer him he won't approve your new account. I say that because when he asked me personal information I told him to take a hike and found out the hard way the first time 🤣🤣

I've never noticed a smell. Or any deterrence. Some folks used salt. I figured that would ward them off too, but some people swear by it

What kind of winter temps do you get? Here it goes to -40 sometimes but averages 0 F I ask to get info about the flake antifreeze and how effective it would be in my area

Ehh the winter temps are usually between 30 and 10° We rarely get negative temps and if we do it's usually wind-chill

Yeah but once you get a wash out you need to add more. It is activated by moisture.

I just add the 18" super stakes from NO BS lures to the chain that comes with the trap. Some of my traps have 3 swivels and some have two. I don't worry so much about it as long as there are good swivels it's fineb
