Down the Rabbit hole to Oregon's Secret Hippie Cave

A natural cave along the Central Oregon Coast just south of Cape Perpetua.

Back in the 1980's it was called Pirate Cave. It is out of the tide zone mostly , maybe winter storm swells excluded. In modern times people have lived there for considerable periods, a chef in Yachats spent many months in it. I have camped there over night many times. You have to be cautious if you have a campfire in the pit as it can smoke the cave out. It is a cool spot if you can find it.

Yachats area is by far my favorite place to explore on the coast here. I live just inwards towards the valley in Benton County and I love dropping a crab pot in waldport and going to yachats. I love that even tho people can say "yachats" there is actually sooo many random places to explore in the region. A little bit south is cape perpetua and all these side of the road spots you can stop but it's so easy to overlook many of them. I just am facinated with the rugged rock coastline and intense ocean, rock hunting pebble beaches. Also, opposite of the highway is amazing mossy temperate coastal rainforest. It's just a great change from the "normal" plain sandy beaches that most people are used to. (BTW great save on that near fall! I've totally stumbled my footing too and great job saving from a face plant🤘)

It's a big planet, people will find all of your favorite spots eventually. All of the spots you go to, were never yours, they've been used for thousands of years by locals and natives. There isn't a good reason you can give me to keep this place "secret"

I camped in here with a buddy, the cave is pretty cool but the tide pools have to be the best in the state. It has the most sea urchins I've ever seen in one beach about 200ft northwest of the cave. There's a family of river otters that hang out there and during low tide it's the best spot in Lincoln county to collect agates. NOT agate beach in Newport.

You can access via Neptune State Park. Walk south along the beach at low tide. Or go past Neptune State Park headed south on 101. There is a single car pull out. Park and walk to the guard rail, look for the opening. 44°15'42.8"N 124°06'36.0"W
