I'm going to sound like a boomer, but I do miss how unapologetically stupid games were back then. This, Guitar Hero, Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Burnout, and even Need for Speed. They aren't afraid to be stupid but at the same time not making a big deal out of it. Things just happens and you don't question it and have to adapt to it, even if it's weird. But don't get me wrong, I do still very much love modern games. Hell, some of my favorite games are from the 2010s and 2020s. God of War Norse, The Last of Us, modern Need for Speed, Hollow Knight, Minecraft, Death Stranding, Dying Light, and more. They have structure and things are somewhat make sense because they're trying their best to explain it through lore and all that. The world also have a really nice structure where the dev have their reasons why they put things here and there. And don't forget cutscenes/character talking. Those are fun. But I miss playing a game that just say "fck those things, just grab the controller and start having fun." Like this game and Riders Republic. In Riders Republic, despite you got yourself into wacky non-logical situations, it still feel make sense. It still feels like something that you could see in real life. But nothing makes sense in Downhill Domination. People punching each other, throwing bottles at each other, doing tricks to gain more energy, an alien joining the race, and the wacky map with wacky things sprinkles in each of them. It's just over-the-top crazy and it doesn't feel safe at all. That what makes it fun. Not every game needs to be the next God of War or The Last of Us or Valorant with big cinematics, lore, and deep story. Sometimes all you need is a stupid fun to fill up your day. Getting Over It and Anger Foot are great modern unapologetically-stupid game and I wish we get more of it.
