Always use engine breaking when driving down hill preferably in 1st or 2nd gear...Driving in neutral will ware out brake pads causing heat.

Yes even for a 10km downhill, it is better to use engine braking. Keep using that so engine braking becomes a habit while driving downhill. It keeps your speed in check and prevents brake heating.

@@aadarshktofficial doesnt this cause wear and tear of our gears? because if our speed increase, car asks for a gear increase. i think a balance of brakes and gear will be required. nonetheless, going downhill means speed is increasing without our control and wish, so you must use either your gears/brakes to slow down, which means wear and tear of parts is unavoidable, and regular maintenance is a must. Driving continuously in mountains will definitely damage your car as compared to driving in plains.

You should always be on lower gear with minimal use of brakes...Running downhill on neutral will only heat up the brakes causing pads to wear out fast.

No brother....not always. I'm from Himachal Pradesh (upper Shimla) and we hardly find any road without a slope. Some roads are so much steep that even if I engage 2nd gear while going downwards, my Tiago 2020 doesn't give me enough engine braking and the speed shoots upto 45-50kmph. And I have driven Scorpio on the same road and going downwards in 2nd gear gave me a powerful engine braking and the speed hardly exceeded 20-25. Toh..ratta maarne ki zarurat nahi hai😂😂😂 Har car ki apni apni capabilities hai. Car ke hisab se gear lagao. Bas apne basics clear rakho✌✌

Sir I think Neutral gear pe jyda Fuel use hoga Agr engine breaking use kare to Fuel injector automatically fuel reduce kar deta hai. Q ki engine ko Rotate hone k liye jo power chahiye jota hai Wo wheel se mil jata hai., Aur ac compressor ka bhi load ni jota, stearing system ka bhi load ni hota, break hydraulic ka bhi load ni hota Aur wahi agr neutral pe chalaye to Sara load engine pe he pdta hai Aur fuel burn hota hai

Only when you have good practice of driving in City and highway then you should try down or up hill aria because sometime driving in hill areas become difficult for experience drivers also.

Rather than going to neutral, its fuel efficient to go with gear while downhilling, coz during engine braking the fuel line is cut off n on the other hand, the neutral is constantly consuming fuel.
