I drove a Mr. Softee truck when I was 16 in 1958 in Washington, D.C. 10 hours a day this song was played...at 16 I could eat and I surely did with this wonderful ice cream. Shakes of all kinds, banana splits, sundaes...I ate them all day while working. Sold a lot of ice cream..cones were 15 cents and 25 cents. Ice cream sandwiches were 25 cents. All good.

You know when you heard this jingle, the weather was starting to finally get warm. NYC kids knew the vibe of running toward the jingle with your friends!! I havent lived in NYC for around 6 years now but I found out not too long ago that the SAME exact guy that drove the SAME Mr. Softee ice cream truck when I was a kid STILL drives it to this day. Last time I stopped by to see him was around 2019 and to my surprise, he still remembered me after all these years. That honestly warmed my heart.
