If you have having trouble downloading the "World - Google Earth Map Index [KMZ]" file from UT website, you can get it from this link - drive.google.com/drive/folders/185gZOlk-ijSUwKIPV_6D8UkhOXSh0bLE?usp=sharing

Great to see what your doing here! what a great resource! i been hiking "cross country" for many years (back when you had to order your Topo maps right from USGS). when online USGS went up i was thrilled then Pro hit google maps and wow. i always kept 2 windows open jumping back and forth connecting the 2 with GPS points. good to see Texas Libraries combine the two.

That's fantastic. Downloading these maps in advance is a great backup plan (plan B) to avoid getting lost when there is no mobile signal (e.g. in the wilderness). Just use your mobile phone (or other GPS device) to get your GPS position and then you can pinpoint exactly where you are on the map. If you break your phone then there is always Plan C - landmarks and dead reckoning.

Thanks for video. As a former AF navigator I'm always interested in maps (or charts). The U of T site is great.

I'm sure I'll find this valuable, so thanks much! I did get a link for my local area in Minnesota and the map returned was from 1953! Two years before I was born! LoL I'm not sure how much value is in a map that old, although it is of historical interest to note what has changed. ;-)

4:15 ..In the UK the first link wouldn't work but the direct one did! Upon opening and clicking the World as shown there were no maps ...but .... expand it further and select 'grid' and bobs' your uncle it works :-) Oh? ... and click the icons box as well :-) Hilarious that it doesn't cover The UK :-)

Once you have downloaded a bunch of map files, does Google Earth pro organize your files for offline viewing? It's not, do you know any good software for this?

Maybe there are High-Resolution Topographic Maps of the US. But maps for Europe are far far from even being precise at average resolution.
