If you were going to make a manual downrigger where you just let the ball down by hand,what material would be best to let it down with? Thanks

You could use a number of things. I would suggest heavy monofilament or some strong cord line. You will get more noise from these and they will get a belly in them but it will still work. If it is a budget idea to fish deeper try looking at a planer board.

I am a Scotty Down rigger fan. If your budget can extend to electric I would really recommend that you go with Scotty 1099 Depthpower Downrigger 24in.This is the same as I had on my 1550

@@FishyBusiness Thank you. I see Scotty has numerous models in the DepthPower range - with varying boom lengths, etc. What are the Pros and Cons for going with longer booms (over the 24in 1099 model)?

@@Camh1968 No cons with longer arm . Main thing is to get good clearance of props and other lines when turning etc.
