This is a great way to visualize other books I've read about the subject such as those by Fritjof Capra. Indeed the challenge is both design but also the upending the mindset factories across America and the world that are programming thousands of people daily to believe in the outdated airplane / straight line myths. We must counteract that, alter the legal frameworks and breed new styles of "corporate beings".

I was already familiar with the Doughnut model, but until now I had not fully understood how these ambitious ideas were to be put into practice - this video has changed that for me. As others have already mentioned here, I also find it fascinating how such a theoretical model is transformed into more concrete recommendations for action. It is nice to see that it is being considered in Portland, Philadelphia and Amsterdam, but I really hope that there will be a lot more cases in the future. Because I have read two comments here, whose authors argue that an application might be easier in richer cities or is even only possible there: Would it perhaps be conceivable to start a Doughnut cooperation project of two different cities (of the same country or different countries) to jointly tackle their respective problems?

We must to take into account that in Latin America there are high levels of corruption everywhere, drug trafficking; besides a poor interest of our Government to investing in green energies,science or social development. Hi Valentina, My family is Colombian and Venezuelan, so I understand the implications that implementation of a system such as this Doughnut Economy would have on our countries. I think that this idea would only work in cities like Bogota, Medellin, Cartagena, - in other words richer cities that have more autonomy. If it can be introduced as an anthropological lens from which to base policy making, not necessarily changing any economic system per se, but rather shifting the way society is viewed and making the public more informed of the extent to which they are being exploited by the government. In our countries, existing officials may attempt to chastise those cities that implement this, but I think that if this was just an, “anthropological guideline” ;) the government wouldn’t be too upset (as long as they can keep on with their corruption) This type of framework allows us to underscore the importance of quality of life in relation to economic models. Most importantly I think that people would be very much interested in a model that presents the shortcomings of any given economic system or policy, I think it has a strong visual appeal and is palatable to the general public. The people would eventually internalize these injustices and hopefully lead to a more passionate society that advocates for itself. Idk my two cents :) Take care! Juan Miguel

Remember, it is not about some government "deciding" here. Government can only respond to what individual citizens are already doing or want to see coming. This is a vision of how things could be: it is up to you, within your individual capabilities, to try to implement some of it...hoping that everyone else will join you and bring about change. As a citizen of Almaty (kazakhstan) we are suffering and suffocating in smog and gasier melting due to lack of public responsibility, corruption of gov and poor structured infrastructure. City is dying, unable to serve labor migrants from all across the country and central asia, whereas wealthy and educated young people are migranting in first world countries

Thank you Alexandra for your information about Almaty Kazakhstan. We do have a much lesser problem than you where I live in Auckland (Tamaki Makaurau) New Zealand Aotearoa, but a big big problem non the less the government is not willing to address. It is the same problem as yours but we suffer from the other end of the spectrum. It still causes homelessness, poverty, hunger, toxic pollution of air and water and results in the concentration of wealth for a relatively few people. We are a profligate nation per capita with little knowledge of how the world operates or the 'techno-feudal neoliberal cum fascistic economic system' that drives it and encourages it through our schools, technical institutes and universities. The international banks dominate based on the BIS (Bank for International Settlements) Central Banking supervisory system supported in this framework by the IMF (International Monetary Fund) accounting system that all countries use to report their financials to the international systems nodes in New York, London, Geneva, Frankfurt, Tokyo, Singapore and elsewhere. It is Profit over People and Ecosystems. Eco-economics is a great way forward. But time and kleptocratic, corporate, and political opposition is the biggest enemy the world has. We must change now, not in 5 or 10 years, but now. The mitigation is urgent and essential to the living planet and the continuity of all life. Thanks again Alexandra Haere pai

Just do you own bit in your own life for a starter. It is about having the mindset and the outlook to slowly bring about change in your family/community.

Lots of good feels there. But if you leave it to people, they will want their cars and lawns and jetsetting holiday packages. And some communities will undoubtedly need to be completely shutdown as their is no way to make the sustainable. It's time to speak plainly on these points or we risk giving people a false sense of choice.
