OMG ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ this was absolutely delicious and soo flavorful! I've never made lentil soup before nor have I ever had any but this recipe exceeded my expectations 😋 I followed the recipe exactly, then added a few dashes of cayenne pepper, and simmered the kale in the soup for about 5 minutes to make it tender - the only little tip I would give is cut the kale into small pieces instead of long strips so it wont slide off ur spoon 🙃 HIGHLY RECOMMEND

@@aalekhine5109 @A Alekhine Greetings to you! Happy to hear that you are interested in Sambar recipe.. it's a staple dish for us Tamil people. You can simply get the recipe from many sites in the net. Yet as u asked this is one of my variations of the recipe.. it's really versatile.. even I play around the variety of lentils, vegetables and spices all the time. I couldn't be happier to share the recipe for Sambar ❤️ Sambar recipe: INGREDIENTS: Tuvar dal (Yellow split Pigeon peas)- 1/2 cup Any vegetable or veggie mix - 1½ to 2 cups Onion - 1, medium Tomato - 1, medium Curry leaves - A sprig (to be added at the end) Tamarind paste - 1 tbsp mixed in 1 cup of water, OR Tamarind water - 1 cup Sambar powder - 4 tsp (levelled) Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp Salt - As per taste To temper: Any Oil - 2 tsp Dry red chilly - 1 (optional) Mustard seeds - 3/4 tsp Fenugreek seeds - 1/2 tsp Asafoetida - 1/4 tsp Cumin seeds - 1 tsp Curry leaves - A sprig METHOD Pressure cook tuvar dal with turmeric and few drops of oil and slightly mash it. Slice onion, tomato and the vegetables length wise. Heat a pot and temper with the items under ‘To temper’ in the order given. Saute onion till transparent. Add tomatoes and fry till soft. Add the veggies and give it a mix. Add half of the salt. Add 2 cups of water and cook for 10 minutes. (This really depends upon the type of the veggies u choose to cook for sambar, cook accordingly) Add tamarind juice, remaining salt, sambar powder and cook for 10 minutes just until the raw smell of tamarind goes. Add cooked dal by diluting it with ½ to 1 cup water. Adjust the consistency as per your preference. Boil for just 5 minutes and switch off. (It will slightly thicken when cools, so switch off accordingly.) Garnish with torn curry leaves and coriander leaves and close the vessel with lid. Flavorful sambar is ready, serve it with rice/idli/dosa.

Three suggestions for onion sensitivity, the first is rinse the peeled onion under cold water, the second is dice the onion where a fan will quickly remove the fumes whether that a fan on a range hood or otherwise. The final is to entirely keep the fumes away from your eyes with protective goggles. Finally put the onions in a pot with a lid. Any combination of these methods does help.

Made this yesterday, omg so much flavor! I pureed all of the Kale because it was kinda tough. The lemon really made the tomato🍅 pop!

@@Downshiftology Everything I've made from your channel has become a new staple in my life! I had trouble with the zucchini lasagna, but its only because I didnt have the right equipment to slice the zucchini. Will try that one again when I can purchase one.

An excellent way to stop onion tears is to set up a fan so that the fumes from the onion blow away from you. It really works

I agree b'cause I do the same and it works amazingly.

I know it sounds funny, and it looks even funnier, but I wear swim goggles to slice onions and there's no more tears!

Lot's of people have been saying that! 😊

I do the same. It may look funny but saves me from tearing. After all I’m cooking, not a beauty contest.

This is the third or fourth time I’ve made this soup and it is absolutely delicious. Husband loves it also. I am bored with lunch so this soup will be my lunch every day with a whole grain roll. Thanks so much. The aroma in my house is incredible.
