I don’t remember Steph being this inefficient and having these many turnovers, Trae don’t have off-ball play like Steph, the only similar thing is they both shoot deep 3s.

His shot selection was really bad, resulting in a low 3pt%. These deep contested threes he’s taking are unnecessary. Once he improves that, he will improve his shooting immensely.

His bad shooting percentage comes from the first two months of the season when the Hawks were playing without John Collins and the offense was 110% on Trae. He was forcing up shots constantly, especially in November when his 3p% was at its slowest (29%). However, once Collins came in he settled down a lot and really reevaluated his game. As a result his percentages rose steadily throughout the season. He kept getting better as the NBA slowed down for him. Fun fact: Trae shoots more bombs (27+ ft) at a better percentage than either Steph Curry or Damian Lillard. Last time I looked he was near 40% from out there. It's within his range.

@Chris Gravitt Fun fact: Trae's 3 point shooting splits each month show that John collins had no effect on his shooting whatsoever. Matter of fact, John collins came back in the middle of November (where Trae shot 19% for the entire month). And Trae had no significant change in his shooting apart from February where he shot lights out from 3. (that was the run he had where the ROTY debate got interesting) but after that he went back to being terrible from deep with John Collins in the lineup, so you can't blame his shooting on anybody but himself. And it doesnt matter if the shots are "in his range". Steph and Lillard shoot way better from 3 than him (on way more attempts) because they know how to balance their shot selection.
