Amazing !!!! I lived in Buff Bay 1974-76 and in Port Antoio 1976-78. And I taught in Titchfield School 75-78 out at the fort!! I am amazed how, although bigger in 45 years, Port Antonio is still the same. It was so good to see it again - thank you. So sad you could not explore more of the Island. Maybe on your next circuit of the world you will have a chance to see more of this unique place !!!!

Jamaica was pretty damn cool. It's the only place that has really enforced the holding tank. Most of the places we have been don't bother, all the yachts in the Anchorage dispose of their waste into the sea as you can smell it in the air.

Thanks for the thumbnail of Jamaica. Yes, time to move to a more cruiser friendly country. And for Jamaica to be fussing with holding tanks. What a joke! I have made this trip and as you know know you are entering some of he roughest waters in the world. The seas stack up in the trades and get bottled up toward the bottom of the Caribbean Sea. Many circumnavigators have said that this was the roughest passage of their circumnavigation. You will love panama. I was going to spend 2 weeks there. I didn’t. We spent 2 yrs! Really great cruising. On the Caribbean side you have the Bocas. And to the east of the canal, the incredible paradise of the San Blas islands. We spent nearly a year there. You are south of the hurricane belt so won’t get any but in summer, lots of T-storms. Winter is beautiful. On the Pacific side you have the Pearlas islands and the Secas islands. Very nice and quite different Than the Caribbean. Anyway, enjoy while you can. And no you don’t have to worry about holding tanks. It,s silly to worry about that where there is good tidal flow. It’s the land that pollutes the waters, the cities and towns. NOT the minuscule turd or two that a boat puts in. Nature has no problems with that. Holding tanks are bad as they make you save it up and dump in mass. Or put it in the city system that dumps it in mass! Some so called “treated”. Ha ha.
@TheSailingBrothers
@TheSailingBrothers Жыл бұрын
Hey Fred Regarding holding tanks we also think the whole thing is a bit silly as we have been in tons of anchorages where everyone is clearly using the water as their toilet as you can smell it in the Anchorage. We have been to so many countries where even if you had a tank getting it pumped out is a nightmare. You're right about where the pollution comes from and it's not from boats. Some of the waves on the upcoming passage to Panama we're just incredible, the biggest we've ever seen made for some crazy fun accelerating sailing. It's nice here in Colon. People have also said there are lots of amazing cruising here. Anyway we are currently waiting for our date to get through the canal into the Golden Pacific ⛵⛵⛵😁😁😁😁

@@TheSailingBrothers Yes, you guys and on the move! And I know there is a window for crossing that you are watching. PS. Don’t know if you have heard but 2 separate boats have been robbed beaten as stripped of goods. Even there dog! This was very recently in the Las Pearlas Islands. So watch it. Locking hatches won’t work either, they smashed them. This is very unusual for the area. No one too seriously injured. Hit in the head with a gun. No fun at all. They were both anchored alone I think. And yeah, holding tanks are a bunch of crap. Pun intended.

Awesome adventure in Jamaica, pity you couldn’t have visited a few other ports, but you found a very friendly town there. I wondered about the fabric repairs - did they use a UV resistant thread? My homemade cabintop cover completely unraveled b/c I used standard thread after the sun did its damage. Curious about your tiller, I have some natural slack between the tiller and and the rudder. I fill the gap using a hard plastic shim spacer and it remains snug, but offers a little “give” when a wave hits or something bumps the end of the tiller. I reckon that you tightened it up for a long while, all good. I hope you got a lot of photos of Jamaica as you were leaving, it’s such a beautiful place.

We thought it was plantain but it was actually donuts which was pretty strange 🤣🤣

Why didn't you head to Cartagena Colombia prior to the Panama crossing, there's a fantastic marina there with everything you need to work on Atlas...

Is Jamaica an overseas British territory country???!!! Still??? How can it be if they have achieved independance in 1962. Cyprus has also achieved independance in 1960 and it is therefore not a British territory any longer.
@TheSailingBrothers

My mistake Mike I should have said it was an overseas which is territory until 1962
