Downtown Puerto Limon Costa Rica Tour Near the Cruise Ship Port

On a recent cruise our ship docked in Limón (also referred to as Puerto Limón) Costa Rica. Puerto Limón is the 7th largest city in this Central American nation and situated in the middle of Costa Rica’s western coast. Unlike other Caribbean cruise ports, such as the Cozumel International Terminal (see our video tour), the Costa Rica cruise port has much more limited shopping inside and outside the port. Before you can exit the port, you walk through about 100-foot-long tent with several rows of local artisans selling their goods to cruise tourists. Outside the port, the shopping opportunities catered towards tourists seemed very limited. Puerto Limón is a fairly gritty and undeveloped cruise port, so lacked a Diamonds International and some of the familiar businesses at other cruise ports (and that’s not a bad thing). Outside the cruise port you may want to take a stroll through the Balvanero Vargas Park. In the park you might just see a sloth, iguana or rare tropical bird!
