Making it faster to get into downtown San Francisco will increase the number of workers, shoppers, and residents in and around downtown SF. Now if we can only get an electrified rail tunnel from the Transbay Terminal, across the bay to Oakland, and then electrified tracks out to Vallejo/Fairfield/Sacramento.

The cores for the Bay Area and Sacramento are both fine. but woe unto those who are on the edge and want to come to the city. There are things I like to do on the Caltrain line south of SF, but by the time I get all the way down there, attend, then dash all the way back, probably having to use Uber due to late/tight connections? I just skip the whole thing ...

I agree, once there's 60% of a tunnel and some platforms, more money will come in for the completion. It's so much easier to ask for funds to finish a project than to get it started while costs continue to rise.

American infrastructure spending is completely out of control. It needs to be assessed why and how the prices are multitudes higher then comparable like Europe and Asia. Yes, there is higher wages likely in these areas but there has to be surmountable waste as well to get these types of numbers for costs and this is why transit and infrastructure doesn't get built effectively.

Asia? As in China? You're either kidding or else you have no idea what actually happens there. Google "Chinese Towers Fall Over" and see how many times this past decade China has built multi-story towers that just happen to topple over within a year or two killing every occupant and anyone nearby who can't get out of the way fast enough. If you don't mind collapses like that, America could probably build on the cheap like the Chinese, but some of us want the investment to last more than a year or two--especially in a city prone to earthquakes like San Francisco.

@@VieleGuteFahrer Oh absolutely, I'm not saying that there are not issues with infrastructure development in Europe. I mean look at Berlins Brandenburg Airport how much of a mess that was. I think the point I was trying to portray is why are the prices in the USA and Canada so significantly over what other places pay. I mean even look at Mexico and their track mileage costs etc. While there are differences in labour, environmental and consulting costs. One has to try and find solutions to skyhigh costs to build these projects. Otherwise the ability to do these projects are inhibited.

i dont like paying for the 30 or 45 bus or the T or very slow N train but the $2.50 is a bit more manageable. im sure the money could be better used to improve other train services. They just purchased a boring machine for bart to san jose i bet with a few billion it cud be used to make extra bart lines around the city. I feel like the caltrain wont fit through a bart sized tunnel because of third rail vs overhead power. a circular bart or muni metro loop around the city would be a dream come true for half the city. Caltrain to salesforce center will save some people 5 minutes to find a bus or train and 7 minutes riding the bus. If they take the N train well maybe 20 mins.

The only way to make transit profitable (which I support) is to stop federal funding of roads and airlines, and to allow the most efficient way of moving people (trains) once again become the default. Pollution taxes should also implemented against all forms of transit, which would also give transit the advantage it obviously should have.

So then what if you live in Vistacion Valley but work in Salesforce. You have to take Caltrain to 4th - King Transfer to the N To Embarcadero Station then walk To Salesforce TC but with the DTX you can get to Downtown S.F in less than 15 Minutes of the 40 Minutes. & This is Having CAHSR train run to Salesforce TC

The usa cannot have a wepon of mass destruction and the train qualifies for just such a thing. The city county state has also been sanctioned and convicted of crimes federal crimes military crimes international crimes etc and can not manage or receive miney or credit from the banks or federal government or posses rights over the trains or anything else. When a state and city county get sanctioned and convicted they are not actually a government anymore and now theyer is only federal government etc.

It literally covers one of the richest and most economically productive regions in the whole world!

Caltrain is also upgrading service this fall in conjunction with electrification. The peak service will be 15-minute headways and off-peak 30-minute headways. The new local trains will take 25 minutes less to travel between SF-SJ. They will also be really quiet, like no sound when standing still because they are electric. Also, the local trains will from now on stop at every station.
