His life itself is a miracle. Born to a 22 Year old mum with Dad's frozen sperm, thriving in the grapple with an unprecedented pandemic. Little miracle has brought us so much joy and happiness. God bless this precious panda baby!

The name Xiao Qi Ji really fits him. FYI. His mother, Mei Xiang, had previously had five false pregnancies and this is where researchers estimated her chances pregnancy at 10% even after she gave birth to Tai Shan in 2005. Aside from those false pregnancies, 22-year-old Mei Xiang gave birth to a cub, presumably a female, on September 16, 2012. The cub later died because of the lungs not being fully developed. Mei Xiang's next deliveries occurred on August 23, 2013 where she gave birth to a surviving female cub. She later delivered a stillborn cub the following evening. Of the twins, only one survived, the surviving cub was later named Bao Bao which means treasure. The 2013 scenario also happened in 2015, when Mei Xiang, once again, gave birth to twins, but this time it's a pair of male cubs. On August 22, 2015 at 5:35p.m., Mei Xiang delivered the first cub, which is smaller than the second cub, who was delivered six hours later. The smaller cub died, and the surviving cub was later named Bei Bei meaning precious. This is why it's miraculous, with Mei Xiang only having 10% chances of pregnancy, and at the same time, being a senior. Mei Xiang is the oldest panda in the United States to give birth, at 22 years old.

Yes, Mei xiang's responses are similar to a "normal, caring mom". I put that in quotation as there are moms with difficulties or challenges. I suppose there are some pandas that may not bond? What amazes me is that the little baby pandas (I just saw Bei Bei's big fall) don't get broken bones unlike infants who would have been in emergency rooms in a jiffy

COVID redirected a lot of things, but wish it had not been the case for me to be more aware before!!! You...certainly upon gathered history have been following giant pandas especially at the Smithsonian!!! I am very very very GRATEFUL! Your past videos helped me learn sooo much more about the Giant Pandas born under Gorgeous Mei Xiang and Funny dad Tian Tian. Mei Xiang is regal at heart!!
