Doyle Brunson is the legend of all time in the game of poker. This interview is a classic. Crafted by famous tournament director Matt Savage, this is something everyone should enjoy. Please share with your friends and help celebrate the life of a true original.
In an exclusive interview with Inside Poker, legendary poker player Doyle Brunson discussed his career, the evolution of the game, and his thoughts on the new generation of players.
Brunson, who is known as the man who helped pioneer and revolutionize the world of poker, he was one of the most honored and respected players in the game. He won the World Series of Poker twice and 10 gold bracelets, and while he has passed, he had a great life of poker.
The Evolution of Poker
Brunson discussed how poker has evolved from seven players to now 5600 players. He said, "Nobody in their right mind would ever thought they could [get this big], and America's found out what I've known for 50 years - it's the greatest game that there is."
He also discussed how the tournaments are now endurance contests, and how he has been able to overcome these challenges. He said, "I don't like it but I don't want any favoritism, I don't expect any and I don't want any rules changed for my generation or me. I sure don't want any rules change for myself and so no, I mean I was blessed with a great endurance all my life and I've still got it to a certain degree if I have to."
The Old Smoky Rooms
Brunson also discussed the old smoky rooms he used to play in back in Texas. He said, "It was an adventure. I wouldn't want to go through it again, but at the time it was fun and I didn't realize until later how dangerous it really was." He also discussed how there were sometimes guns on the table.
The Impact of Chris Moneymaker
Brunson discussed the impact of Chris Moneymaker on the game, saying, "Chris Moneymaker is a very nice guy. He happened to have such a great name - Money Maker - what a great name to promote a poker player right so I think he's done a good job and he's not a real top poker player yet but he will be maybe."
He also discussed how Moneymaker's name, timing, and online presence have affected the game, saying, "He's promoted himself very well and I really believe that he shows his true emotions right. He can be a jerk at the poker table, but I love Phil away from the poker table."
The New Generation of Players
Brunson discussed the new generation of players, saying, "I don't think that the showmanship, the leopard showmanship is the right thing to do. I don't mind people showing their emotions getting mad saying things, but you know when they do it just for to try to be on television that like they were singing and dancing and hooping and hollering no, that I don't like that."
His Son, Todd Brunson
Brunson discussed his son, Todd, who is also a professional poker player. He said, "He was in school to be a lawyer, he was through three years of college. I didn't even know he knew how to play poker. I took him around to a few games and I saw right away that he had what it took to be a poker player."
He also discussed how Todd was successful too fast, saying, "He won a tournament when he was 21 years old. He made good investments, he's been financially secure for a long time and I think that's kind of diminished his desire to really be great."
Conclusion
Doyle Brunson is a legendary poker player who has helped revolutionize the game. In this interview, he discussed the evolution of the game, the old smoky rooms, the impact of Chris Moneymaker, and the new generation of players. He also discussed his son, Todd, who is also a professional poker player. Brunson is an inspiration to all poker players, and his legacy will live on for years to come.

Really nice to hear him so proud of Todd and talking about how much he respects him as a poker player as well as a son. I've always said he's one of the most underrated players of that era.
