Few artists today faithfully carry-on the magnificent "down-home" pickin-style of "Mr. Guitar" himself. Right up there with the late Jerry Reed & the current unmatched world-class finger-style of Tommy Emanuel - So heart-warming to see ya'll keeping the style of the one & only Chet Atkins alive today and well into the future.. - God Bless & thanks for all you do Doyle. - GOD IS GOOD..

Well said, Jack Spratt. I have five, favorite, living, finger-style guitarists and could make the case why each one, in turn, is "the greatest" in one or two particular ways. Tommy Emmanuel lived with Chet, or course and they recorded Chet's last album together. Same time someone asked "Mr. Guitar" there was "anyone you would pay to see," and Mr. Atkins replied: "Oh ... someone like Doyle Dykes. The other three "best in the world, in their own way" are England/Scotland's Martin Taylor -- someone Chet introduced a Country music TV audience of millions as "a young man with too much technique to go around!" Oh, and someone I consider the true successor of Chet's approach to song, never losing track of the melody -- doing all his improvising in chord progressions that Chet would have loved. That would be Brasilian-born American Walter Rodrigues Jr. All this from an evocative "reply" from JackSpratt-12v. Thanks, Jack!

Thank you, Doyle. This is a beautiful, uplifting sound for me on this day. Please keep me in your prayers. My hands are killing me this week. Please ask God to heal me and let me rest and sleep. I've been having problems sleeping these past few weeks. God bless you and your family on this day. I had you and your family on my mind all night last night. Prayers were sent out for you. Travel safe, my friend.

At the 7:43 mark Doyle Dykes introduces one of his own compositions, "Strings of Light," from a time when his daughter Haley was battling cancer. "God definately healed her," he says. Such a haunting melody, one phrase of which (Wonder if Doyle realized it?) he borrowed from a solo guitar segment -- a musical phrase (at the 9:44 mark) from my favorite track on the 'Chet Atkins in Hollywood' album -- ESTRELLITA (Little Star) by the Mexican composer Manuel Ponce. Reminded of the day Mr. Dykes, whose musical knowledge is vast, was 'noodling' a melody of his own one day, when a fellow musician said to him: "Hey, that's 'Here's That Rainy Day'!" "Really?" said Doyle, recalling it with a laugh. At his one show here in Winnipeg Canada, while being introduced by Quebec executives of the Godin company that produces his signature instruments, I could hear Doyle playing softly, just a snippet of "Rainy Day."

I always enjoy your videos. You had mentioned your fathers passing and it brought to mind, my father passed away also the Sunday before Thanksgiving. ( in 2003) It was 3 days after his 94th birthday. We had a family reunion just the week before. What a blessing for us all to see him before his passing. God is good!

At the 5:15 mark, just for me, I'd like to think, Mr. Dykes includes the best version of POOR PEOPLE OF PARIS since Chet's original. Permit a personal aside: When at my request Doyle made it up the the "world's coldest major city" (Winnipeg) and entertained an audience of 50 guitarists in our 'QUEST' music store, I spoke to him before the show and said: "Your Dad and mine died the same year. Bet your father, like mine, loved the song 'Poor People of Paris'." At shows end (he played 3 hours instead of the scheduled 90 minutes) Mr. Dykes took my Gibson "Northern (Southern) Jumbo" made by the same luthier who crafted his Guild signature instrument) and played a few bars of The Poor People of Paris. When I returned my precious 'Gibson Girl' to her case, I realized that he'd inserted his black 'Doyle Dykes' thumb pick between the strings at the head of my guitar.

Doyle Dykes' Dad, and my father, both died the same year -- same time of year -- and at the concluding prayer for his 'Thanksgiving String-Along' Doyle shared a memory of the last time he got to play for his father; the beloved hymn, HOW GREAT THOU ART. On his orange 'Taylor' of California signature instrument. Pick it up please at the 22:22 mark.

Love it, Doyle Dykes, multi-tasking (not as good as Rita and the girls can) installing a 'copper top' quality nine-volt battery in the back of his GODIN steel-string, acoustic-electric "signature model." Coincidentally or not, I'd just shared Walter Rodrigues Jr's solo version (my favorite) of the hymn IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL -- played on the similar, nylon-stringed Godin -- a Quebec company that has quietly emerged as the world's largest maker of quality guitars. Love it when Doyle comments that what he just played was borrowed from two American jazz guitar greats: "Barney Kessel and Tal Farlow -- swingin' kinda stuff, and all I'm doin' is just an 'A' . . . " Oh, is that all! You make it look oh-so-easy, Doyle Dykes. Pick it up around the 2:53 mark.
@MarkBlackburnWPG2 күн бұрын
Stay tuned as Doyle switches guitars to one I think rivals in balanced tone and 'presence' his prized OLSON. A BEDEL: "This guitar can be yours," he tells us, after describing its features, "Brasilian Rosewood (back and sides) and an aged spruce 400 year old top." At the 3:40 mark.

Fun to watch. Never encountered your channel before. Just stumbled upon your video tonight while pondering one more guitar, scouring youtube content. Planning to either sell my cedar & Indian rosewood Teton and buy a Hsienmo, or keep the Teton and still get a Hsienmo. Cheers, MDV in Oregon
