All Right Now is far from “cheesy”. And lumping Free in with these other one hit wonders is grossly unfair. Free was a rock band from the era of Album Rock. @NYpaddler4 жыл бұрын
I suppose it doesn't really counter the (not really accurate) description of Free as a one hit wonder, but you didn't mention what came after the band broke up. When Free split up Rodger (along with drummer Simon Kirke) went on to form Bad Company, which was hugely successful for the first few years. Their eponymous debut album reached #1 on the US charts and became the 46th best selling album of the 70's. After leaving Bad Company Rodgers formed The Firm with Jimmy Page, then after spending a bunch of time on mostly solo projects he spent a couple of years touring as the singer for Queen. The clown who made this video is obviously far more interested in clicks than in quality or accuracy.
@coasterigh26844 жыл бұрын
@@NYpaddler 100% Agreed... however, I would argue that Free was a top notch band, and that they would have been very influential if we'd never heard another peep from them after Free broke up. (as much of a shame as that would have been.) No insult intended - just a joke among friends who appreciate this band - saying Bad Company came out of the remains of Free is kinda like saying Blind Faith came out of Cream, and Wings came out of The Beatles. Paul Rodgers sang with Queen - yeah, David Bowie sang with Bing Crosby, too. (I'm sorry, I am just riffing here. :) ) Free may have been a two hit wonder... Fire and Water... but "by the time they disbanded, they had sold more than 20 million albums and had played more than 700 arena and festival concerts." (wikipedia quote)

@christystewart45674 жыл бұрын
StamfordBridge hmmm, I remember some of these songs described as cheesy back then and not just that Debby Boone thing. I think it had to do with a piece played once too often on the radio. Or, in the case of “The Hustle “ disco got a bad rap even though it had good dance music. “Brandy” was a hit..... on AM radio. All the cool kids were supposed to be listening to FM. Sometimes I think the definition of authentic was getting stoned and listening to 45 minute drum solos then. And I remember a time when Frank Sinatra was considered inauthentic because he didn’t write his own songs or music. But, then again, the same people didn’t think much of Johnny Mercer. I think the poster has a good catch with the cheesy part. These songs don’t seem cheesy to me now . Especially since I liked most when I heard them back then but was told they were too commercial etc.
@StamfordBridge4 жыл бұрын
Christy Stewart It’s the nature of a one-hit wonder that they often tilt toward the novelty song, and can be cheesier. But many of these are not cheesy at all. As for “You Light Up My Life,” it is the very definition of cheese. In fact, the only bullying I ever got in my youth was when my older sister used to hold me down and cornily sing that song to me. Of course I would writhe in agony.
@christystewart45674 жыл бұрын
StamfordBridge get revenge for that! My sister loved two songs “Stormy” and “Reunited “. Played them over and over. I thought my brain would explode. I got even, I think, by playing “Junk Food Junkie”. Which was a true cheesy one hit wonder. That and “The Streak”.
