Wonderful! one of our most value kits here in the UK is the 1:35 Airfix of this car.... i am tempted to buy one to practice on.... here in the UK i was born in 73.... so the most influence years for me was late 70s to mid 80s... so for me and my friends here at school the most popular car was the Starsky and Hutch Torino.... me and my friends all knew that car.... although on our TV at the time my parents would not let me watch it ... but you could buy toy Die Cast... so i did with what little pocket money i was given ...the same story for the Dukes of Hazzard... forbidden fruit for me so of course i rebelled!.... just as important is Knight Rider. The first US show i was allowed to watch other than the Little House on the Prairie... sill today they are very against the USA.... no wonder i love your culture.... not just rebelling i know they are wrong!.

Back in the 60's Airfix was the first company to put out the DB5 James Bond Aston Martin but they released as James Bond special/secret agent 007 depending on which release you bought. Good luck finding one today, the roof for the ejector seat is closer to the movie with the opening being just over the passenger seat and not the whole roof panel. To get around licensing problems when they first released the kit they just called it Super Spy Car, only in subsequent releases did they use the James Bond name and then the box art differed if you had a British Airfix release or the better box art of the U.S. release by Airfix/Craft Master, they also released the Toyota 2000 GT convertible only once and never again.

Very cool info. I wonder how hard that 2000 GT convertible is to find? The convertible version was never offered. Two were made for the movie and that was it!

Thanks for giving the history of the 007 Aston Martin DB5 cars and posting another excellent video too, Raoul! Oh how I wish I had the Airfix 1/24 scale model of James Bond’s 007 Aston Martin DB-5 which was released in 1966 but this kit is extremely rare and very expensive! This kit includes details like a 3 way rotating license plate and the “bullet-proof” rear shield that raises up to protect the rear window. There is a figure of Bond sitting behind the steering wheel as well as a figure of the bad guy sitting on the working spring-loaded ejection seat and when a small switch which is mounted on the car’s chassis was pressed would sent the seat and the bad guy flying though a removable section of the car’s roof!

Thank you! That byer was so upset when he later found out the car he traded for was not the car Sean Connery drove that he decided to sell it. His was a promo car built for the studio. A much better Bond car and was sold with all the gadgets. The actual movie cars had the gadgets removed then sold by Aston Martin as used cars!

This is one where the individual stories is great. I really enjoyed the stories on these cars even after the movies were made. One story I forgot to mention. Sean Connery was driving a DB5 to a Goldfinger premier. When one lady fan jumped on the car as he was driving by. No one was hurt but it scared Sean so bad he cancelled his next premier visit at a different city. I could not find out if the car was an actual Bond DB5 or a rented or borrowed car!

Quickest way to tell a DB4 series V from a DB5, is the 5 has twin tank fill cap covers, the 4 only has one. It's always amazing how the 4.0L engine could get the Aston up to 145 MPH. A little trivia, The first Corgi diecast version was gold because of a compromise. Corgi got the deal of a century by the James Bond Franchise owners to produce James Bond's Aston Martin DB5 to promote their new up coming film. It was originally released in 1:46 scale and gold, yes GOLD. This was due to time constraints put on Corgi by the Franchise to promote their new film Gold Finger. No, it was not gold because of Gold Finger (well sort of) it was gold because the silver they proposed looked too much like the bare zinc the car was cast in and was not acceptable. A compromise was proposed and accepted and that 's why the first JB Aston was gold. Yes my original James Bond Aston Martin DB5 is gold and has only one tank fill cover. Just think how accurate it would have been if they got the color right. The color of the Aston in Gold Finger was Silver Birch.

Yes but the newer movies are not real DB5s they are fiberglass or carbon fiber copies. The studio would not pay 1million for a DB5 as only 1059 were made from 63-65.

The body and wheels look exactly like the ones in the kit Airfix reissued in the 1990s as a factory stock car. What paint did you use on yours? It’s looks to be a great match for the silver on the original cars.

Great job on the kit. I'm curious about the bullet guard on the back window though. I built the kit a few years ago and my kit had a cam mechanism that allowed for lowering or raising the shield. You had to turn the spare tire cover on the bottom of the chassis to make it work. It took a little bit of modifying to get it to work right. Did they get rid of that with the kit you have?
@TheMuscleCarModeler
