For any new viewers looking to buy this gun: The cycling issues have been fixed but make sure not to short-stroke the pump. The longer barrel (vs the ksg) helps tighten pellet spread for those more mid range shots and accuracy with slugs. You do have to adjust to its style but once you get the hang of the 1, 2 rhythm; it's an easy pace to fall into.

*Looks like an honest video. I just purchased and received my DP12, and actually putting a few new toys on it as we speak. I wanted the Works 2 package but then decided I wanted to hand pick my own items like a Reflex Rifle Optic with 4 Reticle Patterns that holds true zero to co-witness with a rear fiber optic iron site and instead of mounting the front iron site I went with a low profile laser /light/strobe combo that sits out of view of the Recticle without the need of a riser. I originally wanted the shoulder sling but after research found it attaches to the plastic casing near the foregrip and I didn't like the possibility of it breaking off the side of my casing so holding off putting that on. I did go with the Stiletto chokes over the door-breach chokes but because they look mean as hell (strictly for show). Back to the review here, the most helpful part of your video was the ejection in a vertical position and in short, anxious to get on the field and do a little trial and error of my own to see if I come up with the same vertical / horizontal problems as well. I can see where that would be an issue. Great review brother.*

Nice figuring out that it was it didn't eject/load properly only when in vertical position . Totally makes sense, and helps pinpoint out the causes of that failure. I hate failures that seem random or ARE random, even more than big predictable ones :O

I just pick up my DP12. shot over 250 rounds birdshot 00 buck 1oz slugs not one failure to eject of feed also racked the slide like you did chamber both rounds. Great shotgun

Everything I needed to know about the gun, and finally you're someone who shows the reloading and cycling aspects of shotguns, never see that in any game of video for new shotguns. I would've liked to see a closer view of the exact way it feeds, but I'll have to keep looking I guess.

Just got off the phone with the manufacturer. I have to send my DP-12 in to have something replaced with the tubes to prevent the FTF when pointing down and racking. Shame I have to do that with such a expensive gun! Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I was going to carry it on duty and that would have been a disaster had the gun malfunctioned when I needed it. Thanks again brother!

Good Video, thanks. I bought both the KSG and the DP-12. The makers of the DP-12 must have looked at the KSG’s shortcomings and improved upon them when designing the DP-12. My biggest issue with the DP-12 is the maintenance of this shotgun. The KSG has a two pin takedown for cleaning. The DP-12 has a 6 tiny Allen head screws and one pin for firearm takedown. The 6 tiny screws are steel being screwed into aluminum. Well, after getting my DP-12 yesterday and firing it. It functioned find and was a blast to fire. This is not an easy monster to clean and is not for the faint of heart. During reassembly and even though extreme caution was used, I cross threaded the steel screw into the aluminum. Well, tomorrow I’ll be contacting the manufacture to see if steel sleeves can be pressed into the aluminum so the screws would be steel on steel. For $1,300.00 Dollars, I sure hope this won’t be on my “must sell” list.

One other problem I just thought of... if you want to put one of those new 12 gauge suppressors on there, so you don't go completely deaf shooting it indoors.... can't do it because of the double-barrel. At least with the KSG you can stick a 6" Salvo 12 on there and bring it down to a OSHA safe 140db.

The way I look at it is: its a combat shotgun with two barrels to deliver a fast follow-up shot before having to consume time pumping. So if your quick clearing a room laying fire, your gun is up so its not an issue. Though prepping for room entry with it down can be an issue, it looks mainly like they configured the system to work with gravity in a level position - maybe the guy in the factory tests didn't lower the gun while testing?

Like the concept of the gun but I would probably not spend over +1000 on that until they fix that. Even then would be a cool home defense/fun range toy. The DP is a quality gun and costs a lot more. After buying the DP you might want to buy the KSG as a second gun. If price bothers you buy the cheap KSG and enjoy it.

It's unique in its design. I can see law enforcement using this shotgun. The failure to feed at a vertical position can be fixed through disciplinary training. If they wanted to use this firearm, they would have to teach them the proper way to rack new rounds into the chambers. Great video Andrew! I love your work, keep it up.

From the purely statistical point of view it's not the best design for reliability. With dual barrel and dual feeding/ejection components you get twice the chance of failure per pump. ie) if a single barrel design have 0.01 failure to eject rate, two of them would mean 0.02. This is because while there are two mechanisms, they are both linked to the same pump meaning one malfunction in one of the tubes to cause other tube to fail as well. Perhaps a better design is to have a force lock between the pump and the feeding mechanisms. So when one tube fails, the linkage(between the pump and the faulty extractor) breaks when cycling the gun, allowing none-faulty tube to cycle. ie) acting as a single barrel shotgun until the faulty tube is fixed. Now you get double the redundancy hence higher reliability than a single barrel shotgun.

one of the downsides of the ksg is that even though you switch to the other magazine, you still have another round in the chamber. Lots of "accidents" have happened with people thinking that switching lethal / non-lethal magazines and forgetting there is the other round still in the chamber.

Good catch on that feeding issue. Seems like no matter what you have to execute a very positive and forceful pump on that slide to avoid issues. I have to agree with everything you said, cool gun... but $1500 is too much considering the drawbacks. Spot on review.

No department worth their salt would take the risk of having less-lethal and lethal rounds in the same gun like that. It's fine to wank over the tactical scenarios you'd use those selectable tubes for while on the range but I just can't see it being used for real.

The main problem I see with this shotgun is that if you short-shuck it, you have to worry about clearing two tubes instead of just one. Now if they gave the option of a tube selector to increase versatility and if they fix that feed problem, then I think it would be a much more versatile and capable weapon system that might be worth its price tag.

I have one that feeds and extracts flawlessly at any angle. The DP-12 that have an issue doing so just needs the extractor forks gapped correctly. I have photos in the DP-12 Facebook group that illustrates with a dime.

For me I believe this is a beautiful gun. I know it will be heavier but it's a big gun. I have one coming in on delivery today and can't wait to use it. I got it fully loaded. the failure to fire I believe could have been avoid it cuz they look like it's a gun that is never supposed to be dropped low when cycling it BUT that is just my opinion and the manufacturer did fix the gapping problem. I appreciate the video though it gives great insight into what I should expect.

Intriguing shotgun for sure. That vertical issue is something they should have caught in development. I am thinking that vertical feed issue can be engineered out. The KSG had issues on the first release also. If I recall correctly, Tim over at MAC sent his back and they sent him a brand new one from the next run and he had no issues. I guess we shall see what transpires in the future. Anyways, a great review.

I saw this before I bought my KSG and decided that the advantages of the KSG are way better than this. First the KSG has no small screws to lose if you have to field strip it in the field. The KSG is almost half the price at most gun stores. When i bought my KSG their was only one source for the DP-12. KSG is shorter and has a tupe salector. If your like me and have several shot guns trying to remember to the trigger twice before pumping. I have never had a failure to feed, I have only shot about 200 rounds but so far no problems with slugs, buck, number 4 shot.

Now, the thing is, like Andrew said, the failure to feed is a very serious issue. However, keep in mind that this is a (mostly) functioning double-barrel, pump action, bullpup shotgun. It is a pretty serious marvel of firearm technology, and I doubt it could have been designed by people who were incompetent. An issue like the failure to feed could be, and probably is being, fixed by the gun's designers without breaking a sweat.
