I discovered David Foster Wallace quite by accident several years ago and it didn't take long to become fascinated by him and his work. This is a wonderful interview and I can't wait to see the film.

is it me or is jason segel the nicest guy on the planet?

I'm sure you're really nice but Jason seems like the nicest guy in the world. So it's a tough call, having never met you and all.

I like that Jason specifies writing as a path forward to not only being an actor, but also to engage with the uneasy feeling of not being actually employed. In writing, we release the tension of having a thought that needs to be mapped out. That mapping process is the act of self discovery, which helps the writer navigate the difficulty of having no particular currency in the wider world, of being a regular unknown. Turns out, DFW also triumphed over this feeling of emptiness from my way of looking at things by writing his way out of the void. We all feel afraid we may not be worthy, and with writing we search for evidence that we matter as intellects, and by extension, as people.

You know what’s so weird is Jesse is naturally so similar to David Foster Wallace. He should’ve played him. Although Jason Siegel did a fantastic job.

gah!!the moment at 28.47 'or it means evrything' jessi is a fascinating character--seems to really know what he is talking and actually has the intelligence to go deeper than the surface. his interviews are always fascinating to me :) i wonder what the interviewer experience was like--if he had any previous conception of jesse as an actor or celeb and if it changed after the interview??would love to know the thoughts :)

DP/30: The Oral History Of Hollywood thank you for your response. i was more curious as to see what your perception of jesse was--so ur perceived notion as to who he might be before u had the first interview--then after the interview !!hmmm--wow!!he is not what i expected or he is who i expected him to be? interviewed four times--any changes you have observed over the courses of the interviews ??from the lots of intervies i have seen on youtube, he used to be more fidgety/little bit closed offish at the beginning which i have observed lately he is not as so much

They where great in the film with there roles. Jason Segel says in one of other talk show he love to be in a horror. I think that would be awesome he would play a good victim but maybe he can play the murderer or the mass murder cuz Jason Segel so awesome he can practically do anything it looks like in his acting but he's such a sweet guy that I think he would be a great victim in like one of the horror Halloween. His movie buddy Paul Rudd played in a Halloween 6 curse of Michael Myers I think Jason would be great in one of those movies

The interviewer is not nearly obsequious enough. I get that you're trying to have an organic conversation, but these are fancy people. They're better than we are, and we should be reminded constantly. And yeah, Jason Segel literally says the interview was great at the end, but that's because he's too insecure to demand the exaltation a man of his notoriety is owed.

+Wally Drapes Jason Segel sounds like a pretty rad dude, if for some reason I had bumped into him, I'd probably ignore him, because I respect his work, but also respect his privacy. This movie was great by the way, I just watched it, and I def teared up more than a few times. All you do is make me want to vomit.
