This first part of the 2-part conversation focuses mostly on Nolte's early years in the theater, up through his star-making turn on TV's Rich Man, Poor Man.

I love Nick Nolte. I'm a addict in recovery from alcohol and the hotel scene is exactly what one goes through. The whole movie portrayed what addiction is like to a tee!! The movie is hard to watch but a really good flick

Nolte could sleep walk his performace in The Deep which I enjoyed but it wasn't a very challenging role for him.If you want to watch Nolte do some serious work, watch his performance in "Weeds," particularly the last 15 minutes. Nolte sets the screen on fire with his skilled raw performance.

I would never claim Nick as one of my "heroes" in life .... But .... From 1st time I saw him in RICH MAN, POOR MAN .... I felt a connection to mySelf (for better or worse) .... I didn't want to be him .... Always (even through his major asshole times) considered Nick as a reflection in My mirror
