DP/30: The Oral History Of Hollywood

DP/30: The Oral History Of Hollywood

Күн бұрын

He's been acting for most of his life. But two great events took place in Ethan Hawke's professional life this year. 1. He directed his first documentary. 2. The 14-year odyssey of Boyhood came to fruition. Hawke talked to David Poland about Boyhood right after they talked about Seymour: An Introduction.
Shot in Toronto, September 2014

He blinks very amazingly. Slowly, relaxed and living in the moment. Beautiful.

Saw the film a few months ago. It didn't really do much for me, as nothing much seemed to happen and there wasn't much structure to it.

i think the point is to portray real, everyday life and to see the beauty in things we take for granted, without needing to exaggerate to create a sense of wonder. it sounds super basic, and it is, but it's so rare to see anything in a film that looks like actual life that it comes as a bit of a shock to the senses and packs an emotional punch you didn't see coming. my only gripe is with the character of the step dad, who seems a bit 2D. even arseholes have redeeming features and moments of likability. it felt for a moment like it was pushing too hard for us to be on ethan hawkes 'side'. not enough to detract from the overall experience though. one of my favourites of the year with under the skin, grand budapest, only lovers left alive, and nightcrawler.

of those 4 you mentioned only watched 3, and under the skin was definitely my favorite of those, still need to watch grand budapest.

id also put under the skin well out in front of everything else. i hope it finds a cult audience on dvd, cos i dont know a single other person who saw it. with regards to GBH, you can basically tell from the trailer how youre going to feel about it. im just a sucker for all things wes

No he's not. Hawke is one of the few Hollywood actors who doesn't try to impress people. He just does his own thing.

He's just interesting and talks in a way that could be considered pretentious but its not. if he was pretentious he wouldn't take on films like Sinister, The Purge, Getaway etc
