My Oral was a conversation about flying and the flight planned for the checkride. In fact, when the DPE told me it was time to go to the airplane, I actually asked him when we were going to start the oral, and he said "we just finished it". My oral for my A&P was done much the same way. It was so relaxing to just be able to talk about aviation vs feeling like I was being interrogated.

It’s a two way street, man…it’s not the gas station interaction from No Country For Old Men

I really liked this one!!! So my ppl check ride was in 1986 and in my log book it is correct in saying that my flight time was .3, yes that is right 0.3 hours. I went where my cfi sent me. I was a young college student that wanted to be an airline pilot. When I went to take my instrument ride, I went to a very very stern DPE and she blew a gasket when she saw this. I had the foggles on my head sitting in my hair ready to pull them down over my eyes and do what ever she wanted me to do for the ride. She looked at me in the airplane and said “TAKE THOSE THINGS OFF YOUR HEAD AND GIVE ME A SHORT FIELD TAKEOFF”. We did the entire ppl check ride and then we started the instrument ride. WOW, was I nervous wreck. After we went inside to discuss the ride she said “That was the best instrument ride I have had this year”. Whew!! The worst thing is that students listen to too many rumors. If you are in a 61 program, find a DPE that agree to give you some instruction half way through training. I went twice with a DPE in my commercial training and it was great. Some will do it and some will not, it all depends on timing. All of our DPE’s in Tx are swamped with work. That is my story!! Thanks you guys.

Regarding when licenses get revoked from a bad DPE, how does that ripple effect work? If they pass a CFI candidate, and that CFI endorses students for solos/check rides, do those endorsements go away since the CFI wasn't really legitimate? Do those students also lose their licenses (even if they were examined by a different DPE)?
@TakingOff2 жыл бұрын
As I understand it, the FAA can make you go on a 709 ride (or checkride again) if your DPE was determined bad. BUT, if for instance it's your CFI, you'd have to redo that one-- however if you did your CPL with different DPE, that's safe. Its a good argument for mixing up your DPE's for your checkrides.
@kenwarren17202 жыл бұрын
@@TakingOff That was not what he asked. I had the same question. For example DPE is bad so everyone he passed has to retest. If he approved a CFI checkride and that CFI goes on to train/endorse students is the student's training and endorsements also vacated so the student has to start over? Seems so to me because the CFI's credentials were not valid.

I am a PPL, licensed in 1975. Sorry, this is not a DPE question. I was an engineer that flew test flights on our customer platforms as a crew member with a Class 3 medical. Some of our customers required us to go to an altitude chamber and it was a very interesting experience. I made a comment that every private pilot should have experience with hypoxia with a chamber ride. I found out later that OKC (FAA) offers a physiology class with a chamber ride for free and all we have to pay for is transportation to their location. Is this still the case? Thanks for your videos. I always learn something!

@@brentjohnson6654 I have not personally been the high altitude chamber in OKC, but I have a friend that has. If memory serves me correctly you just have to submit an application and they will schedule several pilots to go to the chamber at one time. I don't know what the wait time or waiting list is like; however, if you go to that link I think all the information is there, including a contact person at the FAA in OKC to call if you have any specific questions. I have also noticed that there are several universities that have chambers, but I don't know anything about them or what their costs might be. Personally, I think the best training you could be given is from the one in OKC - they give you differing tasks to perform at various altitudes so you can see what the effects are at different heights.

The idea that a DPE can't fly with a pre-PPL student isn't 100% accurate as described. The student can't be PIC.. but they can fly with another pilot and that pilot can allow them to do whatever they are comfortable with... it thus wouldn't be loggable hours towards training requirements. Not saying it's a good idea or it doesn't flirt with trouble.. but legally speaking, it's possible.
