These VDJ's were fine without a dpf for 9 years. Surely it would be better for the engine to have less restriction by getting rid of the dpf( I know its illegal,lets not worry about that for now) allowing better flow from the exhaust. The dpf does absolutely nothing for reliability or longevity of the engine, infact it has been a problem with some vehicles. So putting the legality aside wouldnt you be better off not having one. There are alot of cowboy tuners out there trying to get max hp by tuning right to the edge of the factory safety parameters, sometimes working outside of them, but a good safe tune with dpf delete would surely be better in regards to overall reliability,power and torque figures and fuel economy, ie less resriction in exhaust???

The difference in power is very small (4WD Action tested this, check their KZbin channel). And you wouldn’t even notice such a small difference. But hey, if you ignore the effects of a DPF delete on everyone else apart from you and your engine, then sure, it’s better, for you...but worse for everyone else.

dpf deletes and overfuelling are two seperate things just because you do a rich tune doesnt mean the dpf is good or bad

I know emmissons don't matter in many parts of Australia. However in the big cities sticky diesel particles collect all sorts of junk and trap it on everyone else's lungs killing a significant number of people in places like Sydney. So good on you for not condoning DPF removal. I think these things are here to stay and most problems are a result of the systems being misunderstood.

Hi m8, ive had a dpf egr delete an within 100 miles it is billowing grey smoke with a very slight blue tinge, the garage doin the job are now saying the turbo has gone, but theres no turbo noise and acceleration is all ok, any ideas bud ?

Good to know. Guess the whole delete "hype" realistically isn't that great, and let's not forget to mention again... IT'S ILLEGAL. Never planned on deleting a truck I will own for (not only) that reason. All I need to know now is how to keep the systems reliable. Thank you.

What do you recommend regarding egr on late model 200 series. Blanking plate with a hole ? Or adjustments made during a your tune? Happy to leave dpf after watching the video..

In this instance the customer went back to the crooks that damaged the exhaust and had them reconnect everything. We received the vehicle and reinstalled a Full set of Stock files on the vehciles ECU. Road Tested and made sure all AOK. In this instance, we then went ahead and ran dyno tuning runs each time modifying the ECU Tune files until we gained an appreciable Power/Torque gain whilst keeping the air fuel mixtures Safe and Reliable. We use a variety of platforms to tune. Chips, Modules, ECU Tuning. FOr this instance we ran with ECU Tuning. End result is what we do day in day out for years on these Rigs now. Safe Sustainable tuning without damaging or deleting everything. It can be done but it takes skill.

It might be a silly question but with the DPF deleted what happens when the filter gets clogged with no regeneration burns ?

Well said mate. So many people go for the big tunes and DPF deletes. Not realising the harm they're doing to their engine. And also bypassing the EGR. High NOX output after that and bad news as you know. I've been a mechanic for a long time and i love my DPF because i know what it does. And it works well on my 79 series. Fitted a Steinbauer and couldn't be happier. Thanks for sharing mate!

@@BerrimaDiesel I understand what you're saying 100%. I work at a Toyota dealership as a senior technician and it's unreal what some customers demand from their diesels these days. They want 500 horsepower, to be able to tow 3.5 ton AND get 8 litres per 100kms. While having 33 inch mud tyres, steel canopy, roof top tent, bull bar and winch, side rails, plus half a ton of shit in the back. Then they complain that their Toyota is rubbish. Yeah it is....because they made it rubbish. I feel your pain every day.They get a rude shock when their warranty claims bounce like a basketball when Toyota knocks it back because of modifications.
