Hopefully you guys check out his earlier stuff in a later deep dive video, the way he portrays his story and emotions is nothing short of genius, the plot is a lot clearer and these mvs will make a lot more sense. It's also a darker aesthetic and musically a different sound that i think you'd love!! Fun fact he's one of seonghwa and hendery's favorite artists 🥹 (they both did the dont go insane challenge) hendery is his biggest fanboy and he was so cutely excited when they met recently.

Thank you for reacting to DPR Ian. His entire discography is lore-heavy and to understand his work a bit you need to understand a bit about him as a person and what he has gone through in his life. This comment will be in parts because it’s really long so the next part will be in a reply to this one. After that I’ll add the discography list. PART 1 BACKSTORY AND A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE LORE DPR Ian (Christian Yu) is an amazing artist - founder of Dream Perfect Regime, director, editor, singer, songwriter etc. DPR is made up of a collective of artists - DPR Ian, DPR Cream, DPR Artic and DPR Live (who is currently on hiatus and doing his own thing under his real name Dabin). Prior to that he was part of a metal band in high school, then in early adulthood during his university years he saved up money and moved from Australia (where he was born and raised) to South Korea (to learn more about his own culture). Christian has a love of dancing and used to upload b-boy tutorial videos under the name Barom Yu. Barom is his Korean name while Christian is his birth name. Later through being scouted on the street and then via auditions he became the leader of C-Clown with Rome as his stage name. Even while in C-Clown he was interested in what goes on behind the camera so he filmed a lot of their vlogs and even edited those videos as well under the name DPR - D Pink Reel. C-Clown was only active from 2012-2015. Christian has talked about how difficult the company made it for him to leave even after the group disbanded because of his contract, however he was finally able to pursue directing. DPR was his dream that he co-founded and the abbreviation changed to Dream Perfect Regime. Another important thing to know about DPR Ian is that all of this creativity is inspired by his own personal experiences. Christian has both bipolar 1 and Dissociative Identity Disorder. Just briefly about bipolar 1. He was diagnosed since middle school (mentioned during his being interviewed by Zach Sang) and his first experience happened to him all of a sudden one of his classes. Persons who experience bipolar 1 would have manic high episodes, however some of them may experience extreme lows as well. Christian experiences both highs and lows of that condition. Dissociative Identity Disorder is a defense mechanism that helps an individual cope with trauma through the development of dissociated identities or alters and they themselves are alters as well. D.I.D can only be developed due to trauma, serious neglect, even witnessing traumatic events at a young age. Children are developing their personality from birth and experiences and have loose identity states because their brains are still developing and if adverse situations happen to them around and I believe during the ages of 7-9 (leeway given - under the age of 10) and the child cannot cope then these identity states cannot integrate into one complex personality because the brain basically compartmentalizes memories of these experiences. Alters develop with their own roles, ages, genders, likes, dislikes and how they appear in the conscious and subconscious mind. For D.I.D he has two alters - Mito and Insanity/Mr. Insanity. One important thing to note about alters is that, depending on the system (system of alters) they can gain control of the body through either positive or negative triggers or if there is possibly more intentional control between switches. A switch basically means to switch control of body. Whoever is in control of the body is said to be fronting/at the front. Ian has talked about trying to force a switch (which is a bad thing so he doesn't do it anymore) and said he cannot control his switches. Mito is the alter that Ian calls his guardian and has the role of a Protector. Mito is also a trauma holder so whenever Ian has a negative emotional response during his bipolar lows or at any period that he cannot handle, Mito would switch. Insanity has a different personality from Mito and would switch during his manic highs and from my interpretation his experiences with Insanity seems uniquely different from his experience with Mito. Note: Whenever you see DPR +Ian it’s because he has directed the mv and if it’s flipped it means that he is present in the mv as well. Within his music videos DPR Ian depicts himself, Mito and Mr. Insanity as characters. So as you can see, his mvs are given a lot of creative liberties, however there is always that underlying message of what he goes through. He has two albums/EPs for Mito called MITO and MIITO followed by Dear Insanity for Insanity. INNER WORLDS AND LUCID DREAMING Before I go into a little about Dear Insanity, I need to explain about lucid dreaming. You don’t need to have D.I.D or any disorder (as far as I’m aware) in order to lucid dream and while I’m not knowledgeable about if anyone who is not part of a system can have inner worlds, it is something that some with D.I.D can experience and some may not. Even if inner worlds exist, the host (the alter that’s usually in charge of the body) may or may not have access. Christian gives a description of his lucid dreams in an interview that are recurring dreams that leads me to believe that he was mentioning his inner world. Within his music videos he gives us partial insight into what his inner world or even lucid dreams are like. Dreams are separate from inner worlds and only he, Mito and Mr. Insanity would be able to tell the difference within the mind.

Part 2 DEAR INSANITY The above is important to note because everything you see within Dear Insanity is one long lucid dream. Christian explained in one of his IG lives that storyline wise, Ian lucid dreams and discovers a place called The Other Side. So in order to dream longer, he takes sleeping p*lls. The deeper he goes into the dream/s, the more he loses his own identity. Within inner worlds alters can appear different from how the body appears like a different person, animal or any other kind of being. Within The Other Side you would see Ian, Mito and Mr. Insanity as their own characters. But it’s a little bit more complicated than that. Also within The Other Side, there is a powerful being called The Hybrid (which is not an alter, storyline wise) that is basically coaxing Ian to get certain things done for it in order to be set free. Note that we never see The Hybrid within the lore but only know it through its presence and from Ian’s explanations as well. DON’T GO INSANE I know you guys started with Peanut Butter and Tears, however because you’ve reacted to 3 videos already, I think it’s best to start with this one. Don't Go Insane (based on my interpretation) is a depiction of the experience of manic highs in dangerous and even high adrenaline situations with a switch to Mr. Insanity/Peak Insanity (the one with white hair). So from here this is how I would explain Insanity within what Ian has spoken about irl. During an interview he has talked about dissociating during his manic highs and also about the feeling of when he himself is experiencing a high when he basically comes back down he feels disconnected from that state. I've heard that can be an experience from people who suffer from bipolar because they feel different from how they usually are. However there are no alters in bipolar, only D.I.D and OSDD (Other Specified Dissociative Disorder). However has talked about dissociating during his highs and lows and as dissociating is part of the D.I.D experience there would be switches. In relating to his real life experiences, I have read one comment mentioning that Ian remembers what Insanity does because he's usually co-conscious with him (note that being co-conscious or even co-fronting is a possibility in D.I.D but I'd need to catch up on his lives just to verify if that happens between Ian and Insanity). However during life or death situations then Mr. Insanity would switch with Ian. This is what the video depicts for me. The pink villagers with their pitchforks, Ian being tied up and then running away with The Green all depict dangerous situations where the switch between Insanity-coded Ian and Mr. Insanity happens. Also the presence of Mr. Insanity can be theorized as foreshadowing. The reason why it's foreshadowing is because the scenes you see here are part of a lucid dream that Ian is having and can also relate to the experiences of inner worlds which some people with D.I.D can experience and also because of the journey he is going on within that dream and the decisions that are being made throughout that journey. Plus since the timeline isn't in order, that's another reason why I consider this foreshadowing. The place that we see Insanity-coded Ian at I believe has been theorized to be Calico. In the song Calico, Mito has lost his heart there. This is why as I believe we don't see Mito as himself fully but him in form of black smoke because he was trying to protect Ian from the villagers. I remembered the first time I had watched this mv, without knowing anything about Ian, the storyline made me think of D.I.D and then soon after I learn of his mental health experiences. Certain scenarios made me think of dissociating, switching, memory loss possibly and the presence of alters. One of the last things I wanted to point out is the use of colours. This is in relation to The Green glitching to pink. Every alter and even the antagonist of the story has their own colours. Mito: red, black and white. Insanity: purple, yellow/gold, green Hybrid (not an alter): red, green, blue The Green: green? But he did turn to pink and he can change to other colours. Ian: unknown although some Dreamers have theorized it to be cyan, magenta and yellow. Note: I believe we can use pink to represent a toned down version of red. The Green has been theorized to be the one leading Ian down a dangerous path, however a theory I also lean towards is that he/it represents Ian's state of being like an influence or a switch. Green means Insanity, blue represents hybrid influence and pink falls under Mito. Remember that within the video I believe that Mito tries to front. I also believe that he also tries during the chase since The Green turned pink for a split second and also the presence of the pink people influenced that as well. When Ian and The Green jump from the train, they basically went through a portal and ended up at another location within The Other Side. Another way a portal can be represented is through the grave than Insanity-coded Ian has woken up from.

PART 3 SO I DANCED Within the music video, Ian has “left the water running at home.” Mito is connected to water (bodies of water, rain, thunder) and even lightning. Mito is also the protector alter, so Ian has ‘left’ Mito to deal with whatever he has to deal with. This gives Insanity-coded Ian and The Green to basically just take off and do whatever. I could just imagine Mito having a headache from all this. Remember this is just storyline and all the chaos that comes with it. Mito is the Guardian/Protector alter. He is the one who stopped the manic trip down memory lane in Peanut Butter and Tears because the van scene might have taken Ian to somewhere Mito thought he didn't need to go. That's the moment when (adult) Ian woke up. When a manic high takes over, the person can possibly become fearless and ignore danger. So because Mr. Insanity had taken over memories of Ian's childhood (according to the storyline being portrayed), the 'van' just seems like something harmless with an Insanity-influenced Ian willingly closing the van door. And this makes me think that Mito is sick and tired of Insanity's b.s because he knows if he doesn't stop him, everything will just go haywire especially since Mito is trying to protect Ian's memories from him while Insanity just wants to do whatever he wants. The Other Side could represent Ian's subconscious. In the mv, Insanity looks like he just wants to rob a bank but it's the Bank of the Other Side which can allude to keeping safe valuable things (which to me, is the key that will be used to unlock the door to Ian's repressed memories). Insanity wants to do what he wants without consequences while Mito has to remind him that he (Mito) is that consequence. It also shows the way people can go through their manic highs and lows. Also to note, and Ian had explained this as well. This is actually Ian in a disguise where as he goes deeper into The Other Side, he becomes more affected and would eventually become Mr. Insanity. For now when I use Insanity, I mean Ian is more Insanity-coded as his moods has been influenced. This is like a metaphor for what he experiences during his manic highs. Irl Ian has talked about during his manic lows what he feels and experiences is somewhat like his world being flipped and it's all black and white or monochrome which as you can see is how he portrays his experience with Mito. When it comes to his manic highs, it changes certain aspects of himself that when he's out of that state, he doesn't understand how he could become that person. So when we relate this to Ian being in the disguise in the mvs it's like he doesn't realize how much he's changing. If he were to remove that disguise and be back to himself, he may feel a disconnect between him and who he was when he was Insanity-influenced. Now when he turns into Mr. Insanity due to the hybrid's influence, this will be like a full transformation. Irl this could represent an actual switch but for the storyline's purposes it feels more like a transformation. Just to add - when Insanity got the key, that got me way more worried that Mito trying to k*ll him (storyline wise however I totally agree that they are a real part of Ian's life because they are his alters). This is however the inner world and just note that alters can merge, can split but they cannot d*e. And here I'll shift out of the storyline perspective and get into DID for a bit. This isn't about Ian directly but more about anyone who has DID. From what I understand, if repressed memories due to trauma are unlocked without safety measures (e.g. a therapy session in obviously an environment where they feel safe), it's going to do more harm than good. PEANUT BUTTER AND TEARS Christian relates Peanut Butter and Tears to the joys of childhood (like peanut butter sandwiches being something nostalgic) while I believe instead of jelly, you have tears which probably indicates growing up and away from that time. In relation to the lore, he has said that this is within the mind of Insanity, which I believe it’s Insanity’s dream or just a theory, Insanity have a bit of influence over Ian’s dream. However these dreams could also be memories. This is to depict Ian's lucid dreaming and journey into The Other Side, however, at this time, it is presented to him like childhood memories. We saw 'child Ian' briefly. Because as we see adult Ian throughout this is more about the emotional impact of memories as Ian feels as an adult about his childhood but the question remains - is it a true emotional representation or is Insanity amplifying things to the max?) In the beginning we see Ian making the decision to choose the centre door instead of the one on the left or the one on the right which leads him to the dentist and then all of a sudden, he's a little kid. Now if I had to apply that to a real life setting, I would link that to Ian, as an adult, having a visit to the dentist and that triggering off memories of his childhood. Going through the door is what goes on inside his head. Dental visits for some/a lot of people aren't a pleasant experience for a variety of reasons. But when Ian takes that trip down memory lane, we don't have Ian anymore but Ian being influenced by Insanity or it’s Insanity having that dream. The scenes are colourful and chaotic with a lot of butterflies being present. So this is the manic highs that he's experiencing. We catch a glimpse or glimpses of Mito hovering around. After all he is a Protector. When Ian comes out of the 'memory' it's back to everything being sterile and white. But he only 'wakes up' when lightning strikes the vehicle that he's in (within his memories). This is Mito (imo) telling him that's enough for today. So he's back and someone mentioned that it looks like he's trying to remember something but he's having difficulties and that makes a lot of sense. But also, we see the 'tears' on his face in colour. Mito is a Protector but him stopping Ian from dreaming even further makes me also think that maybe storyline wise, he’s also being depicted as a Gatekeeper. I’m not saying he’s a gatekeeper irl because all Ian has mentioned is that he’s a Guardian/Protector but within the mvs, the character Mito also acts as a Gatekeeper as well. “A gatekeeper is a headmate who controls switching, access to certain areas inside the headspace, or access to certain system members or memories. In gateway systems, this can also refer to a headmate whose job it is to watch over new system members trying to enter the system and either welcome them or deny them access. Some gatekeepers may be able to force switches.” (pluralpedia) Mito seems very much gatekeeper (just a theory) because through that lightning strike he is able to wake Ian up. Lightning is an element that is related to Mito. The picture with a man (which I assume is Ian) falling from the sky is interesting considering the position he's in. He isn't diving, or looks like he's pushed from behind but it's like someone pushed him from the front and now I can just imagine the alarming speed at which he's falling. I was watching a video of his and I remember him saying something like what goes up must come down. Or weird thought, being up in the sky could be that feeling of being able to levitate, experiencing that high, but it doesn't last forever so gravity pulls the person down a lot quicker. I'm assuming it's what a moodswing feels like for someone with bipolar disorder. It's just from one extreme to the next (but ofc there are different types of bipolar so I understand that not everyone would have the exact same experiences). And I did notice the keys and the creepy hand picking out one of them. Hmmm, who could that be? (I assume it could be related to Mr. Insanity whether him or someone else) One other thing though "My tooth's been wiggling for years." This makes me think of problems that people ignore but it's bothering them on a daily basis. It feels like that nagging feeling someone has or maybe it's a memory that's just at the back of your mind but you're not quite clear on what exactly it is. If someone notices that someone is avoiding like going to the dentist for a specific problem the usual response might be "You know you can get that fixed if you just make an appointment?" But maybe the person isn't hesitating because they're afraid of being in that situation itself but because it triggers memories of a specific period in their life. Like a person could avoid a certain scent because that triggers a memory for them too.

Okay so minor correction to Part 1. At the Note paragraph it's supposed to be DPR Visuals +Ian (meaning that he's the director). Just to further explain (and I'm paraphrasing here), when he's 'directing' and not acting in the mv he'll have it as DPR Visuals + Ian because it's like he's looking at one direction but if he's a part of the mv it'll be like him looking at the other direction so it looks flipped. But also in my view even flipped let's us recognise that he is simultaneously playing the role of Director and character within the mv along with being the visual Editor.

He's been in the industry for quite some time. He Originally debuted in a K-pop boy group, C-Clown, in 2012-2013 I believe. It's a time in his life he doesn't like thinking about. I personally loved C-Clown as a fan but it's understandable from his position that it would be triggering for him. It was YEARS after C-Clowns disbandment that he finally made a comeback as an actual artist, now in the global market. He does still have a good relationship with his ex Members though. They See each other on occasion.I am So fucking Proud of how far he's come and how well he's Mastered his Craft. I can't wait to See What his future has in store.
