DPR IAN during his IG live upon the release of miito: "It's everything that I've been bottling up inside of me. It's a very special piece to me because I think it's the first time that I'm actually ever opened a world into who I really am behind closed doors so with that being said this video is not just a video for me, it's something that I just kind of pretty much let out everything that has ever been inside me. This film that you're about to watch, it also has a lot of moments where it really.. guess in a sense happen to me. It is a very vulnerable video. All the characters that I play are an extension of who I am. This video isn't just a concept, it is something that actually hits very close to home so I know I'm putting a lot of me out there and i know that at the same time very risky but I just want to be as raw as it can be." and yes he's been suffering with bipolar disorder since he was young. and his music and films became his outlet to deal with it. Thank you so much for this great reaction! and I very much agree, the world need to SEE THIS 🗣️

Pardon the novel but I have a LOT to say about Ian and his work through the lens of an Actually Real Bipolar Person (aka me): DPR Ian has been open about his Bipolar I diagnosis, which colors much/most of his work. When I first discovered his music, I was floored. I didn’t know anything about him but I saw myself so intimately in his work. I researched him and found out his diagnosis, and it all clicked. I felt seen in a way I never have before. Two years ago (finally! In my 30s) I was diagnosed with Bipolar II (so less of a “high” and not ever in a fun way) also rapid cycling like he is. His work is SPOT. ON. for my experience and I understand how it can be so difficult for a lot of people to parse. Being in one’s bipolar mind can be extremely disorienting, yanked from a high to a low at any time. The high manic phases aren’t all fun and games and are often highly destructive. Substance abuse, risk taking behavior, self destructive behavior in relationships, etc have repercussions just like the dark depressive side. Yes. It can be just as terrifying as he depicts, and I’ve never seen it displayed so accurately as he has. As someone in the arts myself, it is exhausting to get your heart and soul out into the world but I also feel “purged” of all of it and somehow after I’ve gotten it out into the world. Ian has never mentioned DID, only Bipolar. But there are all sorts of manifestations of symptoms. Some people hear voices, or just a more audible subconscious. When I’m not properly medicated, I feel more of an incomprehensible jabbering/static sensation when I’m in a more manic state. And yes, when you’re in tune with your body and used to how your cycles work, you can start to feel the “flip.” I think that’s what a lot of the whispers are telling him. He knows it’s coming, ready or not. He recently did an amazing interview on the Zach Sang Show where he talks at great length about his struggles with mental illness and how it helps and hinders his creative process. He also talks about the extensive concepts he explores in his work and it’s definitely worth a listen. kzbin.info/www/bejne/n4G0gqGnntaSq5I I am so grateful that he is able to be so articulate about the way he experiences his life. I’ve never heard someone famous talking about living with Bipolar with such candor and frankness. I hope you can find the time to watch the interview, as he was able to enlighten some people who just know about Bipolar Disorder by what they’ve seen in movies. Ian shows us that it’s possible to be a functional and brilliant member of society and not just a guy screaming on a roof that he’s Jesus or something. People with Bipolar Disorder are consistently linked with brilliant art. I think this is because we’re so deeply in touch with a wide variety of emotional experience and can somehow transfer that into their work. Through study, if not proper diagnosis because of the historical factors, it is assumed that Van Gogh, Ernest Hemingway, Virginia Woolf, Beethoven, Lord Byron and more had Bipolar Disorder, not to mention many famous current artists, musicians, and actors. As you’ve noticed, I have a lot to say about mental health and pretty much never shut up about it. I’d love to answer any questions people have because even though more open discussions of mental health are being had, it’s mainly depression and anxiety. Bipolar is one of those “really bad ones” that few people truly know about. I think it’s important to understand the daily struggles that people like myself and Ian experience, but it’s such a hard topic that few people broach. (P.S. if you’ve gotten through this, I think Taemin should be on the list for dark and epic performers who have some DPR Ian like tendencies)

Yes he dances! He used to be in a kpop group called C-Clown. His name was Rome in the group. He was the leader, main rapper and main dancer! But I love watching what he does now so much. His voice is amazing, but also the artistry is just to a whole another level. I totally agree with you that we need a movie haha

I had not seen this video of yours, I loved his reactions, before you paused, I was like "omg pause, this part is very cool, analyze it" that's how I reacted when I saw this video for the first time, Ian really is God in Everything he does, every detail, every form, the music, the voice, the lyrics, is perfect.

And he did an ig live during the premiere, it was like 40 minutes. He was so nervous omg, he really thinking we might not like it😭 also did one live the other day like for 2 hours explaining each song. I think Brian would be interested to watch it, it's already on YT, I can send you a link to the channel) And yes, he has a bipolar disorder since young age, also in his lives he said he has a trouble to voicing his thoughts when he thinking too much and he stutters many times. I also noticed he doing it in lives too.

I was waiting for your reaction, cuz I know both of you are huge fans, but I am a bit surprised neither of you know anything more about Christian beyond DPR, but I know not everyone has been following kpop for almost 15yrs like me, Christian is an Ace in the truest sense of the word, & he first debuted as the leader of the bg C-clown in 2012, the same year as Exo, he was actually the main dancer & rapper of the group, & went by the stage name Rome cuz his Korean name is Yu Ba Rom, so the boy has always been multi-talented, & bonus fact is that the maknae of C-clown is Jaejun that was giving you issues in TAN, his 4th debut btw, but he was going by the stage name Maru back then

Anitra, I was waiting for your reaction so much! Honestly hoped that Brian would join too) Tell him he's literally the biggest fanboy out there. And Christian watching all reactions, so he might be will watch yours) I loved the whole album, it was different from the first, like more experimental and raw? Also, there'll be part 2 and 3 for MVs, 4 songs for each video. Ian really said he can't decide which one he wanted to film, so he did a movie in 3 parts) Thanks for the reaction as always, love you both so much💙💙💙

DPR Ian is just brilliant, I'll never get tired of saying this. He is incredible and you're both so right, everyone should see this. I can't imagine how hard it must be for him to be this vulnerable and open about himself to the whole world to see. Talk about courage! Loved the reaction as always! 😘

Yes he dances, he actually has a KZbin chanel, way before his kpop days, from when he was young doing dance tutorials. Him and DPR Live met through dancing ☺️ As fare as we know, he said he has bipolar the only reason it looks like DID is bc he's trying to explain himself/experiences through these characters. When he was young it was easier for him to understand what was going on by imagining his episodes/emotional state as characters for ex Mito who he always saw as a fallen angel, a Seraphim.

It bothers me that DPR Ian and crew are beyond exceptional but do not get the recognition that they truly deserve. Maybe this will be the breakthrough! Thanks again for really taking this apart and talking about it. ❤❤🩹❤

Moodswings in disorder is actually Moodswings in this order, in the documentary of his first album when he noted the ideas we can see he wrote 'disorder' pronounced as 'this order', like 'dis' pronounced as 'this' so the initials of the words in the album name can be written as MITO.

One thing that's important to note about Ian and his struggles with mental health is that he would be the one with the first hand insight into his condition before anyone else. Of course we know that he's mentioned his bipolar disorder and in the process of using characters/alters like Mito and others it appears like D.I.D. So it's understandable why there can be analyses that more shift to the D.I.D side while understanding that he's depicting a different condition. I did start off in So Beautiful where if I didn't learn that he was bipolar what would I think the vid meant which lead me to D.I.D. Until recently when I saw a post dated a year ago that he did say that he (also) has D.I.D. So it's not just us learning about him but him also learning about himself and or opening up more about himself. And I appreciate that he's so open with his mental health and obviously it's his right to decide how much he wants to share with others. He's one of the artists I appreciate for being so real, and open about himself, as long as he's okay with doing so.

Unrelated - but did u watch Zombie Pop on ur own? The video is technically an ad, but it has clips of Ians trip to Peru and is a cute video so i wondered if u saw it? anywayss.. Mito movie such a masterpiece and i feel like it needs to be watched on a big screen. The whole intro serpah scene has some of the most beautiful imagery ever. Knowing Seraph is a Mito song makes it even more impactful for me. Also After hearing him talk about how limited on time he was in i think the Jre interview, i can only imagine the type of things he could make on a big company budget and more time. Sometimes i forget he is literally an independent artist who literally has built dpr from nothing. Going back to the visuals i think a lot of artists can relate when saying Ians imagery is really inspiring. Like He singlehandedly got me me out of an art block i was in for months. His brain is just is different in the most creative and incredible way. Like ugh i could make a whole damn lecture about this video lmao i like how i just ranted about how much i love him instead of saying anything that happened in the video oops
