So glad that you guys took my suggestion and seem to be enjoying him! I don't know what I already explained to you before since KZbin deleted my account and with that all of my previous comments. Even if this comment gets posted and you reply to me, I probably won't be able to reply back but I'll see everything. I'll explain the meaning of this video: Ian calls 'The Other Side' the place where the story unfolds, which is actually his consciousness. As you guys know the protagonist of this album is Mr Insanity. And no, the other videos aren't colorful as these ones. This is a staple of Mr Insanity. About the butterflies, Ian said that they are the symbol of Mr Insanity. He's the only one that can see them. He said this is inspired by a mental health assessment test that shows "butterflies" to the patients. He was probably talking about the Rorschach test which consists of showing 10 inkblots and then the person needs to associate each card with something. Some of them look like butterflies. Ian then associated butterflies with sanity. The more butterflies you see (like Mr Insanity) the more clinically insane you are. Growing up Ian thought that everyone remembers all of their dreams until he started asking. Lucid dreaming has always been a part of it. It is the same with sleep paralysis which he has almost 6-7 days out a week. During sleep paralysis he hears things, although doesn't see them. However this is not scary for him. It's just something he grew up with. In those lucid dreams there are a lot of doors. Going through the wrong door would turn the dream into a nightmare. The only way to get to “The Other Side" is through lucid dreaming. "Peanut Butter & Tears" is the very early stages of Mr Insanity. Child Ian starts lucid dreaming and wandering through these 'doors'. The first door that he enters he is met by a whole new world he never knew that existed: “The Other Side”. He tries to understand where he's at until he realizes he can't leave or he doesn't know how to get back. Essentially the longer he stays lucid dreaming, the longer he ventures into “The Other Side”, he starts to lose the grip of reality and beomes insane. Hence why it's the birth of Mr Insanity, his manic episodes. 'The green asteroid seen on the beginning of the video was a huge part of his dreams when he was a child. "Peanut Butter & Tears" (the start of Mr Insanity's journey) then comes before "Don't Go Insane" (the process of Mr Insanity's journey) Somewhere down the mind, venturing into these doors, Ian/Mr Insanity comes across his youth or memories unlocking his youth, one of them being "Peanut Butter & Jelly". However when he comes across it this time it’s "Peanut Butter & Tears". As he said It’s a ‘sad freak show’. This song is about childhood trauma (represented here by a visit to the dentist), how it shapes you and losing the joy in life as the years go by. As he wakes up from the dental procedure there’s glitter tears on his face, the aftermath of the trauma. Remember that one of his disorders, DIssociative Identity Disorder (DID), happens because of severe and/or repeated childhood trauma especially before 5 years old. The trauma stops the mind of the child from fully integrating so the mind becomes multiple identities, "multiple people in one body". Imagine the mind is a mirror, then this mirror is struck by trauma and becomes shattered pieces. Each piece functions as another mirror (another person), but they were still once part of the same mirror so they are still connected. The cover for his first EP is his picture behind a shattered glass and inside the case there was a broken mirror. But he also said that there's still joy in life even after you’ve grown up. You just need to know where to look for it. this song is one of my favorites. Some other favorite of mine are Scaredy Cat, Limbo, Nerves, Winterfall, Skins, Ribbon, Seraph (but tbh I love all his songs lol).
