So glad you reacted to these! Here goes an essay. As you probably already know Ian has DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) and bipolar. Mito is one of the alters (short for altered/alternate state of consciousness) which is another person in the same body with different memories, voice tone, body language etc. DID stems from severe childhood trauma. The child fragments the mind so that the "new person" can deal with the trauma and not the child. That's how someone with DID learns to deal with extreme stress: to disassociate and become someone else and this mechanism goes on throughout their lives. Then whenever he's going through though times sometimes he just switches. He blacks out for hours, days, weeks (the most he has been out was a month) and Mito comes in (he's "fronting" in DID terminology which means who's taking control of the mind) as Mito's role in their system is to be the "emotional protector", to deal with and remember their traumas. Ian is the "host", the one who controls the mind most of the times, the most proeminent identity. It's also not black and white, sometimes there is co-fronting meaning more than one alter at the same time. Skins came to be because Ian had one of these black outs for 2 days and came back with Skins already written and produced by Mito and the video already done with the help of 2 of his friends. The "you" on the lyrics refers to Ian. It's a letter from Mito to Ian about how It feels to hold their traumas for so long. Ian said he decided to release it as raw as it was. It's the first time he allowed himself to show to the world Mito's true feelings and not only how Mito is through Ian's eyes. Humanizing him in a way, since Ian mostly shows Mito as a dark almost mythical figure in his life that he repels. About the name of the song he said that Skins could be about being comfortable in one's skin, or skins that you put on to play a certain character or things getting under your skin. Limbo represents the state of mind that combines the worst of Mito and the worst of Mr Insanity (his manic highs) as it's literally the place between heaven and hell. He didn't say the name of this alter yet he just called it a "Hybrid". At the last stage of his tour in 2022 he said he was under so much stress that Mito split into 3 more alters and that was the scariest experience he has ever gone through. Maybe the Hybrid could be one of them. Hopefully they'll have a more flexible schedule. This last live as a whole is very illuminating if you want to know about more of how he deals with his DID and his world in general. Another amazing interview is the one he did with Say What Reacts, it's ginourmous but if you're into him it's worth it. It's the first time he talked about his DID so in depth besides the live that I linked. He contacted her out of nowhere for an interview. A more well known one is the Zack Sang show but back then he didn't disclose yet that he actually has also DID and not just bipolar. He also said that this year he'll release more music as Ian only. Zombie Pop was a song for example that he did alone, with no third party influence of Mito or Mr Insanity. I'm glad that he will do that since he mentioned previously how sometimes he feels insecure about his music. That he would make a song and think "Well, If Mito did it it would be way better..." His songs can be sometimes a mix of genres and all over the place in a good way because sometimes he would make part of the song, then it happens that there's a switch and then another identity will finish the song. Mito usually has a more orchestral sound, with strings etc. That's why at the beginning of Skins there's the harp sound for example. Mr Insanity is usually more eletronic or pop and colorful. That's why he made Don't Go Insane , So I Danced and Peanut Butter & Tears. The differences in voice tone also exist and Mito for example can hit an octave that Ian can't. Anyway thank you if you managed to read my whole essay and thank you for the reaction! You're amazing! ADD ON: I forgot to say that the mention of wolves is also a huge symbolism for him because of the "werewolf transformation" aspect which ties on with his DID switches. That's why it's mentioned in Don't go Insane and Limbo. That's also why the So Beautiful MV feels like a werewolf transformation.

@@pri8065 You're welcome! I'm also fairly new to his universe, I've listened to his songs since 2021 but never took time to research him because of the personal stuff I was dealing with. We're all very complex but some minds are just completely fascinating and his is one of those. He's always so vulnerable that we can relate even if we will never know exactly what he goes through.

Ahh ive been looking forward to this so much!! Skins was such an emotional song especially hearing him talk about it. As others have said and u also mentioned, this was mitos song bascially to Ian. Mito is bascially portraying how it feels to be in Ians skin and ian said it is probabaly the most vulnerable song hes ever made. I agree the line "i never asked to be like this" is so simple but emotes so much.

skins' "mv" has the credit written as "dpr + visuals ian" while the limbo mv's credit is written as "dpr visuals +ian". so am i reaching or the placement of the cross has something to do with mito, ian, mr insanity or the hybrid? or does it have any meaning at all? from all of the mv's that ian dropped, only the skins' "mv" has the "dpr + visuals ian"

Omg I saw this comment and thought ooooh wow, I hadn't caught that! I went back and watched "Skins," and at 1:50, there's actually a reflection (or shadow?) that appears under DPR + VISUALS IAN that says DPR VISUALS + MITO, which I'd never noticed before 🤯. In his interview with Say What Reacts, DPR IAN mentions that "+IAN" means his name, "Christian," the + = Christ. I'd always interpreted it as "plus," not a cross, so again, I was floored haha. I just went back to click through some of his MVs, and in the "Don't Go Insane" MV, the + actually is a cross, wow! DPR IAN further discusses the symbol of the cross throughout that interview (like how MITO seems to gravitate towards a lot of biblical imagery and narrative). In conclusion, I don't know anything, but I think you're right that the cross is a strong symbol related to identity, and in the "Skins" video, moving around the + indicates some type of shift in lens and influence.
