The law of tithe was not part of the law of moses, tithing precedes law of moses. Our problems as christians is that we fail to understand biblical significance and follow the passion of our self interest. If one pastor says, tithing should be cancelled becuase he or she feels is part of the law of moses, then such person should go and read how Paul made references about Abraham whose believe in God was accounted for righteousness. The law of moses is what christ has come to correct. Abraham gave his first tithe to melchizedek because he feels grateful of what God had done for him. Naturally everyone who is a believer should be grateful to give in return to the giver of our heart desires. God loves a cheerful giver who knows that without God he or she is nothing.
@boladayl79012 ай бұрын
And Abraham gave a tithe to Melchizedek once! Did the Bible say that Abraham continued to pay tithe every month? Tithing as a law started with the Israelites please, and it was for a reason, which no longer exists.

Someone in the comment said that pastors use tithe to fund their lifestyles. But he didn't care to know where the pastors get the money they use in sponsoring people for worldwide evangelism and all the great work they are doing in their communities and the country at large. Do you know how many schools, roads, boreholes, and even 24-hour power supply that churches have built/constructed and given to their host communities? Do you know the numbers of poor people churches are caring for on a daily basis? Do you know how many students are in the university courtesy of churches? Do you know how many graduates that churches are absorbing from the unemployment market on a yearly basis? Do you know how many poor people churches have sponsored and empowered with vocational training? Do you know how many widows are taken care of by churches? Do you know how many people that churches are sponsoring yearly for worldwide evangelism/church planting? Do you know how many world-class gospel musicians that were trained by the churches that today are bringing honor to this country? The list goes on. Most of the achievements above were made possible because people are paying their tithes. Finally, do you know that if not for the churches in Nigeria, this country would have been totally enveloped by the power of darkness? If you are not paying your tithe you are doing yourself, you are not doing any pastor or church. A day is coming when all faithful tithe payers will be rewarded by the master himself. Read your Bible very well. Look at those pastors preaching against tithe; they offer little or nothing to the overall progress of the universal church. What are their contributions to those great things that the churches are doing in Nigeria? They have deceived themselves and are now deceiving others. They are a bunch of envious people. Christians, be wise. I can continue, but let me stop here.

If tithe is still very important, go to Israel now and find out if they still collect tithe. They will tell you that there are no Levites again. They will also tell you that the monetary tithe is a corruption of tithing. Tithing has principles. If you are not doing it right, you're not doing it! So, which of these tithes below do you pay if you pay tithes? We have to be sincere here. In the Old Testament, there were three main types of tithes and were meant Levites/ Priests, Poor and Widows: *1. Levitical Tithe (or First Tithe)* - Purpose: Support the Levites and their families (Numbers 18:21-32). - Amount: 10% of agricultural produce and livestock - Frequency: Annual (not monthly- once in a year. - Distribution: Given to Levites, who then gave 10% to priests (Numbers 18:25-32) *2. Festival Tithe (or Second Tithe)* - Purpose: Celebrate festivals (Deuteronomy 14:22-29). Here, if the place that the Lord has chosen if far from where your tithes are, you are to sell them ( not money o cos you can't sell money) and then go to the place that the Lord has chosen for you and when you get there, you will use the money to buy what you like- the animals be it ox, cattle, ram etc and buy food, strong drink (you know what it means) and you and your household will eat them and be merry. Here, you are to eat your tithe and celebrate. - Amount: 10% of agricultural produce (every 3 years, 20% for festival years) - Frequency: Triennial (every 3 years) - Distribution: Consumed by the giver, their family, and the Levites during festivals *3. Poor Tithe (or Third Tithe)* - Purpose: Support the poor, widows, orphans, and strangers (Deuteronomy 14:28-29, 26:12-15) - Amount: 10% of agricultural produce (every 3 years) - Frequency: Triennial (every 3 years) - Distribution: Stored locally for the poor and vulnerable There was no where money was acceptable even though money you available at that time. Only agricultural produce was acceptable and they must be from the land of Israel. The introduction of money as tithe was a man-made thing which means alteration of the scriptures. Key principles: - To Support worship and ministry - To Care for the poor and vulnerable These tithes were given to the priests/Levites because they had no land as inheritance and so were chosen to serve God. They could not do any other job aside serving in the temples.

Abraham was not mandated to pay tithe. He took a decision to give one tenth of his spouse of war to Melchizedek who he sensed was a priest. Abraham got that practice from the pegan way of worship that he once belong before the Lord called him. In pegan worship, you go to see a seer with a seer offering. And Abraham still practice such even after God called him. That's why everytime God meets with Abraham, he offers sacrifices to God, because that a practice he has built throughout his life as a pegan worshipper before God called him and which was not a sin still practicing such way of giving when he meets with someone who he sensed to be a seer or prophet or priest. It's just like some Muslims who pray five times a day. When they come to Jesus, most of them still keep that practice of praying five times a day which is not a sin, and this time, their prayers is to Jesus and no longer to Allah.

Jesus Christ is the greatest gift anyone can receive. Because of the gift of Christ Jesus, we are called sons of God. Even Abraham did not have the opportunity to know Jesus Christ, so he had to pay tithe and make other peace offerings to be abkebto draw close to God. Jesus Christ is of a better and higher covenant. Greater than the covenant of tithing! Jesus Christbis the fulfillment of the Law, including the law of tithing. I would rather accept and live by the greater and better covenant God has gifted us in Christ Jesus. Tithing is of a former and lesser covenant! The glory of the latter covenant in Christ Jesus is greater than that of the former in Abraham.

Also, even though Abaraham paid tithe, he was never called the Son of God. Today, I am a child of God because I have received Jesus Christ as my Lord and savior, not because I pay tithe. Tithing is overrated.

When tithe is mentioned, defenders of falsehood will start quoting the old testament. Christianity started from the new testament, so why cherry pick this old testament and not practice everything written there

Madam go and read the Bible again. Deuteronomy 14:23 GNT: Then go to the one place where the Lord your God has chosen to be worshiped; and there in his presence eat the tithes of your grain, wine, and olive oil, and the first-born of your cattle and sheep. Do this so that you may learn to honor the Lord your God always. AMP: And you shall eat before the Lord your God in the place in which He will cause His Name [and Presence] to dwell the tithe (tenth) of your grain, your new wine, your oil, and the firstlings of your herd and your flock, that you may learn [reverently] to fear the Lord your God always. NIV: Eat the tithe of your grain, new wine and olive oil, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks in the presence of the LORD your God at the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name, so that you may learn to revere the LORD your God always. Read and grow in spirit... Enoch is a thief too... Jesus himself called such people Hypocrites in Matthew 23... All they want is tithe and not preach the right thing... God bless you ma

I believe Giving is a transaction. John 3:16 When God loved He gave, but please take note, He gave inorder to receive. He gave Jesus inorder to receive Us. What if He didn't give Jesus, would He receive us. So automatically this makes giving a transaction. God gave and out of His giving, He receive so many sons to glory. In Luke 6: 38 Give and it will be given back to you. I think this is a principle. It is just like sawing a seed of maize, ofcourse you will end up harvesting more maize. That's my submission. God bless you all.

Dr Damina is right. Knowledge is power. Tithing is an old testament law and the dispensation we are at the moment forbids that we Christians (as gentiles) observe the laws of Moses. These laws of Moses were 613 which the Israelites (only Israelites mandated were to obey). How did the law become a curse? Paul emphasized that the law is a curse in *Galatians 3:10-13: "For as many as are of the world of the law are under the curse for it is written, *CURSED IS EVERYONE THAT CONTINUETH NOT IN ALL THINGS WHICH ARE WRITTEN IN THE BOOK OF THE LAW TO DO THEM."* What was it that was written and where was it written? *Deuteronomy 27:26 (Read 11-26):* *CURSED IS ANYONE WHO DOES NOT UPHOLD THE WORDS OF THIS LAW BY OBSERVING THEM.* Prophet Malachi also reiterated that the priests have incurred curses upon themselves by not obeying just one of the 613 laws of Moses. Not paying tithe means they refused to obey the laws of Moses and as a result, curse would be upon them. *Malachi 3:9 says YOU ARE CURSED WITH A CURSE, FOR YOU ARE ROBBING ME."* Malachi only reminded them of Deuteronomy 27:26 which was the curse the Israelites placed on whoever among them that refuses to obey the law. All these happened before Christ died. Now that Christ has died and redeemed us from the curse of the law by His grace, Christians are no longer obligated to obey the law. Because saying that we want to keep upholding the law would mean that we are saying we reject the grace with which Christ has rescued us. And if we don't uphold all the laws, we would place ourselves under the curse that Christ has redeemed us from. Remember Deuteronomy 27:26 - if anyone refuses to obey all the laws, he/she is cursed. Parts of 613 laws include: Not to mistreat animals(Exodus 23:5), Not to oppress the stranger (Exodus 22:21), Not to make idols ) Exodus 20:4-5), Not to blaspheme (Leviticus 24:16), To offer daily sacrifices(Exodus 29:38-42), To To observe Yom Kippur - Day of Atonement (Leviticus 16), To support Priesthood (tithing) Numbers 18:1-32, To marry withing the faith (Deuteronomy 7:3-4), To care for the widow and poor (Deuteronomy 15:7-11). As Christians, we are not obligated to observe all these laws. This was a debate between Paul and some of Jesus'disciples after the death of Christ as we have it in the new testament. In *Acts 15:1-36*, some were of the opinion that the new converts to Christianity) the gentiles had to keep the laws while Paul and Barnabas objected this view. The argument was so tense that they all had to go to meet the elders of the church in Jerusalem. In *Acts15:19-21* James ( Jesus' brother) suggested that the gentiles should follow minimal requirements which were ONLY 4: To abstain from idolatry (verse 20), To avoid blood and meat sacrificed to idols ) verses 20 &. 29), To refrain from sexual immorality ( verse 20), To avoid eating meat from animals killed by strangling or animals that died with their blood in them ( verses 20 &29). In *Galatians 2:1-14*, Paul & Barnabas disagreed with Peter and other Jewish Christians on the need for gentiles to keep the law. Paul argued that it wasn't required, that Salvation comes through faith in Christ alone. In *Galatians 5:1-6*, Paul warned Gentiles against trying to keep the Law for Salvation. In *1 Corinthians 7:19*, he also stated that Circumscision is unnecessary. So, with this knowledge, saying that Christians (formerly gentiles) have to keep the law when Christ has set us free from that curse associated with non obedience of the law doesn't make sense. It's like we are putting ourselves under the curse that doesn't concern us in the first place. Christ is all we need. We don't have to keep the laws to be Christians. The grace of Christ is sufficient for us all.

Pst. Abel Damina, I would like to believe what you said to pator Adeboye is a form of persecution. The bible said know the truth and the truth shall set you free. There is difference btwn truth and fact. Fact is a generally established knowledge but truth is based on what you know and believe in. You mostly preach fact but Jesus said to know the truth. So In whatever version Jesus comes to you as a man or child of God is your truth and that's what shud be preached. You talked about persecution, it would be unfair if you are referring to pst Adeboye's message as wrong because he isn't persecuted, as a matter of fact Pst. Adeboye and Bishop Oyedepo who you also referred to in your comment has been persecuted and still gets persecuted. An example of their persecutor is you. I have a lot to say but it's not like my comment is relevant. But I have been taught to never let things like this slide without my little input. -Ebijuni Isaac

I know you mean well but there's no "your truth" in this gospel, there's only THE TRUTH. The truth isn't just words or ideas or opinions but it is a person. Jesus said you shall know THE TRUTH and it shall set you free. He goes on to say I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH AND LIFE. So that truth is not some personal revelation but the person of Jesus. One of the reasons I love Christianity is that we can all be wrong and the scripture will be true if we genuinely study scripture we'll see that outside our preferences and background we can all arrive at a neutral ground that has Christ at the center. We grow in knowledge no doubt but there aren't any versions of Christ as believing that will make people heap up doctrines that fit their narrative. The scripture requires sound teaching to be understood, Paul said to study to show yourself approved by rightly dividing the word of truth. Our loyalty is to Christ and the word so any form of misrepresentation should be corrected
