abobjenkins then why don’t these well informed minds you speak of speak as this brotha did? Not just anyone can do what Amos did. It’s about dedication, desire & LOVE for Afrikans & for liberation.
@AfricanThinker865 жыл бұрын
@abobjenkins No, genius is definitely the right word. A lot of people may be reluctant to admit this, but some people are naturally gifted in terms of intellectual ability. People like Amos Wilson tend to fall within what you call the "gifted" category. He's at the very top of his respective field, which places him likely at the top 1% of the intelligence scale. Most people couldn't even get through a Phd program--only the top 20% usually can--let alone publish legitimate academic work. That's why you'd be hard pressed to find even a single black theoretical psychologist--not even at harvard, yale or any of the top research departments--who has been able to come close to Amos Wilson in terms of the quality, logical coherence and overall brilliance of their work. And no one--and I've read a whole array of scholarly work in the field of psychology--has come close to arriving at the same theoretical conclusions as Amos Wilson, independently. Black psychology today is still 50 years behind Amos Wilson! That says something. The reason you think Amos Wilson's "information" is simply the result of being informed is because you probably misunderstand just how academia actually works. Academicians/ trained scientists specialize in doing original research within their field, which they publish in the form of books, papers, articles, etc. Once you go past the bachelors and master level, you're trained in terms of methodology (knowledge production) not in terms of mastery of course content. They don't have you siting around reading books; they're training you as a scientist within your field (I know this because I'm going for a Phd in Computer Science). So yes, Amos Wilson WAS a genius. He'd been in gifted classes all throughout his life and graduated top of his classes. He just so happened to also use his talents in the interest of black people, and for that we should be grateful.
@AfricanThinker865 жыл бұрын
@@lnudd3947 Because they didn't have the same ability. Others have been as dedicated and afrocentric as he was, and were trained as pyschologists just the same. However, if you compare their work with Amos Wilson's, you'll see a mark difference. It's similar to the difference between Diop and many of his contemporaries. Amos Wilson had a talent for conceptual thinking and advanced abstract reasoning. He compares favorably even against the best of his mainstream contemporaries, white or black. Compare, for instance, Amos Wilson's work to those of David Shapiro or E. Roy John. Amos Wilson was the greatest theoretical black psychologist by a longshot.
@AfricanThinker865 жыл бұрын
@abobjenkins My point, to make it short and simple, is that the difference between Amos Wilson and his contemporaries wasn't just a matter of perspective. The quality of Amos Wilson's work places him at the very top of all black psychologists, regardless of ideology. It's the quality of work he produced which distinguishes him. That comes down to ability. There are very few--except for the most naturally gifted--black academicians in any field that can come close to replicating his level of work. He also compares favorably against the most esteemed of his white counterparts such as David Shapiro, Arthur Jensen, etc.

This lecture brought to mind two things: culture and community. The violence, the poverty, the powerlessness, the ignorance, the apathy, and the dependence on other people and their social systems is a result of the culture of African Americans and the fact that, to a large degree, we have no functional tangible communities in which we have full control. If we want to solve the problems we face year in and year out, we have to change our culture and build our communities. Full stop...

She thought she was telling Amos Wilson something by trying to "call him out" there but really he was just being realistic about our economic situation and the current realities of the economic world, unlike some others who'd rather live in pie-in-the-sky fantasy about perfect economic systems with no poverty, no inequality, no unemployment, no competition, steady growth, etc. Besides, some of her assumptions about pre-colonial Afrikan economies aren't even true. Afrikan societies did in fact have concepts of private property, or at least property belonging to specific families or subgroups within society. A lot of what we call "traditional Afrikan economics" is just European economic philosophies born from the European's own radical traditions passed off as "Afrikan" when they're anything but.

As a female entity in this universe, I have to believe that we will come together as a nation "EVENTUALLY". I think the best thing we can do as a generation, is to reach the younger generation (7, 8, 9 year olds), and teach them the truth about their people, and in my personal opinion, religion is not the way. But the way of life is the way to teach them about the spirit world. Help them tap into that "magic" that God has already placed in them (even though we all have it). Most of us don't even want to believe that "we" have that kind of power.
