I got Xanax prescribed by a doctor for anxiety. I had never even heard of Xanax. Was fully hooked after the first bar. I did them for about 9 months. Most of that time was a complete blackout. Wrecked a car, lost a job, went to jail and even pissed the bed a time or two. So I decided to quit cold turkey. I went from have hundreds of milligrams in my system to zero. Was the worst 2 weeks of my life. Have never been so sick and literally thought I was gonna die. The irony is, I took them for anxiety and the addiction and all the bs that comes with it caused way more anxiety. I really can’t believe that doctors put people on that drug everyday.

I was out on adhd meds as a kid, and in order to counter the bad side effects, my parents and doctor put me on a bunch of SSRIs, primarily Zoloft. I don't take the ADHD meds anymore (they caused so much harm) but I can't get off Zoloft. If I go one 24 hours without it I'll have migraines and the worst nausea imaginable. If your kid is not performing well in school or hasn't been in a good mood, please consider making changes in their life and education rather than mess with the chemical composition of their brains, especially when they are still developing. The combination of these dangerous meds mixed with traumatic events have led me down an extremely dark path, and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy

Xanax is usually prescribed for it's almost instant anti-anxiety properties. It doesn't take a few weeks to start working. One pill is all it takes. They can even be taken during a panic attack and are commonly prescribed for that because they work so well. There are plenty of anti anxiety medications that do take a few weeks to work. Most are non Benzos though.

After 10 years of living on Benzos and alcohol i finally ended up in a psychiatric ward before going into rehab. I remember quitting Xanax my first week at college in 2013. I had taken adderal and Xanax every single day in high school as my doctor prescribed. I still remember withdrawing in my dorm room, forcing myself to go to the library to study, and literally hearing sounds and voices in my head in the quiet library. Took about 3 weeks to feel “normal” after 4 years of every day use. I would go on to substitute alcohol for the Xanax for the next 3 years until I quit drinking cold turkey too. That was much harder, took 5 months clean before I felt better and not in a mind fog. Sober life is boring but life gets boring as you get older anyway.

First off it depends on how much MG Xanax u were taking. I had a seizure taking 4-5 Xanax a day and decided to go cold turkey. The worse mistake ever. Xanax is a med where u NEED TO WEEN or taper off of. Even an ER doctor told me that. If you are just taking 1 mg it shouldn’t. 4-5 bars a day and cold turkey u will go into a seizure and the only way to counter that is take a bar and u will snap out of it.

I am a year clean and sober off of opiates oxycodone 10 mg. I was taking them as prescribed four times a day 6 to 8 hours for back pain after being injured in a car accident, for three years and still became addicted. I decided one day just to stop randomly. I don’t know if it was my inner voice or what?. The withdrawals was the most excruciating experience I’ve ever experienced in my time on this earth. You quite literally lose your mind. No, I’m serious. I couldn’t function in the most simplest of ways. The first three weeks of withdraw I had violent convulsions, somewhat like seizures. I became catatonic to where I couldn’t speak. I had horrible, anxiety, intrusive, thoughts, vomiting, diarrhea, I didn’t eat for about three weeks and became very very skinny. I lost about 30 pounds, even as the days pass while you heal it’s a very slow excruciatingly bewildering experience. It took me seven months to feel somewhat “normal”. I am now a year out. I feel fantastic. However, I do have side effects from years of abuse. I get brain fog, irritable, horrible anxiety, and panic attacks, and in some cases, depression, and detachment issues, but you do have good week’s sometime even a month or two is good. Id go through this any day than have to go through the horrible experience of addiction, as well as the withdrawal. My prayers are for anybody dealing with any substance abuse.🙏🏾

Interesting. I do think antipsychotics could be helpful, I noticed particularly with stopping Xanax that I would get so anxious that it would get to the point of paranoia, so it makes sense. I’ll have to think about that. I’m almost done with a taper but terrified of stopping this last little bit because of what I’ve been through before. Had ringing in my ears too, burning pain between my eyes that nothing would soothe, afraid to sleep and afraid to wake up. I think that’s awesome about GABA because I started taking supplements for my chemical imbalance and Gaba I take daily. I miss the high of being “Happy” all the time. When you have a severe depression, exercise is completely out of reach, you just don’t have enough energy to get out of bed, forget exercising. First step is always and will always be looking inwards: sit with your depression, listen to it, listen to what are you responding to with a depressed state, find the source which is ALWAYS a trauma, and then find a good enough trauma therapist and take a long, hard road of regulating yourself and healing. This way you will improve your quality of life not for a few weeks but long-term, and once you start feeling better, regaining your energy level, this is when you start exercising.

Real panic attacks are just as intense as a withdrawal. If you live with insane ptsd style anxiety all your life... Withdrawals are laughable. Pint in 15 seconds when I was 12.. 58 cans in one day , 15 top shelf long Islands. Almost a whole bag of wine, 12 pack, half gallon of whiskey and vodka.. That Almost killed me. Bartenders thought I was a freak of nature. I started shaking when I smelled whiskey.. stopped immediately no problem. Just blacked out for a week from Xanax last refill. Will easily forget about them again. Meth and Opioids were laughable. Cigarettes I need intense work outs and keep busy. But I'll suck ya off for a can of soda.. I need my high fructose and caffeine. everyone is different

Which anti psych out of curiosity? I was given an anti-psych for an extreme migraine in the hospital, just one dose. It gave me RLS for 3 weeks, for every hour of the day. And it also gave me extreme dysphoria, I felt like I was on a bad trip for those whole 3 weeks. Fast forward a year later - another extreme migraine. When I get to the hospital I let them know "No anti-psychs". And what do they do? They IV me one. Two minutes pass and I turn to my sister with tears in my eyes and tell her I think they gave me one. She didn't believe me at first, but after another minute half my face was drooping and my leg muscles tightened so hard my fucking leg almost broke. So it gave me dystonia for a couple days. Had to stay on the cardio floor because my resting heart rate was 150-180 resting. They treated me like royalty those few days, I was on fentanyl+ativan almost 24/7. I'm not a very vocal person, so I didn't try to take action against the hospital. But that whole hospital visit was essentially free, so I'm not complaining. Anyways my body chemistry is very weird. I'm hyper sensitive to DXM, cannabis makes me vomit profusely, and a lot of other things. I just wish I could remember what medication they gave me so I can put it on my record/file not to ever administer it again. Aside from that, the only drug I take daily is morphine/other opiates. Fortunately (and unfortunately) opiates are the only drug I don't get extreme side effects from.

My dad was schizophrenic. He would hallucinate sometimes, but mostly it manifested as severe crippling depression, the kind where he was practically catatonic. After his first suicide attempt via overdosing on his meds, he lost his job. Later mom left for another man because she couldn't handle working 2-3 jobs anymore just to make ends meet, and honestly I couldn't blame her, though I sure as hell tried to. Shit was fucked up. But from the lowest point of his life he got back up on his feet and made something of his life again. He seemed...maybe not exactly happy but content with his life. Then one day he decided he felt so good about himself and where he was at that he went off his meds without anyone knowing. A week later he shot himself in the heart. He didn't come back from that. Fucking rebound.

But they don’t do that, but they need to. They overlook to many things. My doctor years ago failed to tell me that you can’t take benzos and ambien together it can be deadly, and I did that a lot. Everyone talks about the horrors of benzo's but its really dependent on the person. I personally have 2 people in my family that used benzo's for 10 years for anxiety and never went over a certain dose and were able to eventually taper down and come off in reasonably quickly. Personally speaking, xanax was a life saver during a long battle with Lyme Disease due to the ailments it caused with my nervous system. I also have a family member who was into all kinds of drugs and just kept loading up on xanax he bought off the street to the point of addiction and ruin. It's not the drug, because these drugs do have legitimate uses for people with chronic illness, disorders, and disease -- it's how the drug is managed. It doesn't just take over your life.

@@smart_for_a_retard Man, I relate to so much of what you said including the part about making fun of people that breath in bags. I used to think anxiety and panic attacks were people just putting on a show, but then a Lyme Disease infection hit me like a truck. To make a long story short it, felt like my fight or flight response was constantly "on." Adrenaline surging, feeling like i was going to puke, heart racing, mind racing around the clock, insane anxiety -- the only thing that would touch it during that period was Xanax. Nothing else they tried worked. It was the only thing that would allow me to get a few hours of sleep and to calm the nausea and racing mind while i was awake. I fear that videos like this and the addiction stories could one day get these drugs taken off the market completely when they can be life savers to the people that really need them and take them responsibly for a reason. I wish more stories like yours got out there rather than the stories you hear about people taking xanax at parties and becoming pill junkies etc. Glad you made it through brother and were able to tell your story. All the respect.

The problem with joes simple take on ssri's is the semantics of the word "depression". Depression is a normal human emotion, you lose a loved one or a job and you feel sad. This is not what ssri's are for. Major Depressive Disorder aka Clinical Depression is an entire different ball game and is a medical emergency. Dramatic biological and physical effects that make simply getting out of bed near impossible let alone being productive or going to work. Thats why it is so simple for the 95% of the population who have never had clinical depression to say "ahhh just toughin up think positive"... I assure you if that was possible these people would do so. Imagine being surrounded by billions of dollars puppies and the people you love the most and feeling no joy and all you have is dizziness mind fog and gut wrenching hopelessness. Thats what clinical depression is, its not effected by your life situation or thinking patterns. Its a biological disorder where the feeling of calm or joy is impossible to experience. Its an isolating nightmare I wouldnt wish on my worst enemy, like sinking into an abyss and nobody can pull you out as you spiral down. For these people with the actual medical condition of mdd/clinical depression, ssri's are a life raft in the darkest of seas. If you dont understand what I am saying consider yourself lucky you arent in the percentage of people who have to go through that living hell.

Depression is like sharing a room with a giant black bear. Can't play dead like one would to get rid of a grizzly, it must be fought. Some days you'll wake up with that black bear sitting right on your chest and it won't move an inch if unless you fight. You're still fighting a wild animal that outweighs you by 800 pounds, but even putting up a small fight will make it back off a little. That bear will never go far, but you don't have to let it eat you, there are options out there.

Very insightful. Everything is subjective. With todays rampant sin/cruelty apathy is a go to for egophiles and average people alike. Pathy must be pounded into many people with a sledgehammer, or putting them in that position so they can feel it. Not everyone of course....but trends are not built on humanity.....it's virtue signaling, short term reward, applying labels, shifting blame....etcetera. Net benefit for me and F U because your problems must be self induced. A common social construct among populations (whom are no longer the ones creating social constructs) is that all fixes are available to those whom attempt to seek them as our countries are superiour so F everyone and I will just work to prove how virtuos I am. BS. In my country it is an absolute socialist illusion that fools everyone. Your description of this disorder is excellent however it was required that you deliver it in a way that a child could grasp it.....would anyone even bother reading it all? Everyone is already so great and brilliant that many I would bet would immediatly feel superiour......I'm really guessing here, but we do have serious problems ingrained in society threw engineered constructs.

There may be imbalance chemically in the sufferers of depression but there are many many other means to achieve improvement on there mental health that don't involve taking a serious medication with serious side effects and also can generally out perform these drugs. I had a depressive/anxious "episode" that derailed my life after freshman year of college (there was no significant lifestyle or circumstances changes to really indicate why it happened). I had to take a semester off to sort it out because I could barely function. My confidence was in the gutter, I had very little energy, I couldn't think clearly, and it took an incredible amount of effort to complete even simple tasks. I was able to recover and "reboot" my life with vigorous daily exercise which gave me structure as well as the mood elevating effects of exercise. I re-enrolled in university and things went quite well for ~2 years. However, despite maintaining my almost obsessive workout routine, I slipped into another depression/anxiety "episode" and again my life went to pots and I fell out of a work out routine. I tried to replicate what had worked for me before by forcing myself to work out and have a structured life but it didn't work. I had no idea why the steps I had taken just a couple years earlier no longer were benefiting me and for some reason I was unable to get into a productive routine, especially working out - starting to work out is the hardest part as everyone knows and it becomes easier as you get into the routine and build up your fitness levels but for some reason it didn't get easier and I was like a zombie. I was prescribed klonopin (benzodiazepine) for anxiety and it completely turned my life around. I didn't realize the extent of the negative impact anxiety had on my life and the klonopin was a lifesaver. I was on it for just over a year and it helped me "reboot" my life again and become an effective, productive person. The medicine has its risks but thankfully I had a very vigilant, thoughtful doctor who made sure I was prescribed reasonable amounts, used the medication to take steps to get back on track, and when I was back on track he tapered me off slowly as to avoid the withdrawal/rebound effects mentioned in this video. Cliff notes: Exercise is great both physically and mentally but sometimes it isn't adequate on its own. Benzodiazepines can be an extremely effective tool when prescribed by a vigilant, experienced, and thoughtful doctor who understands how to mitigate the risks and get the most out of the medication. Unfortunately, there are loads of half-assed doctors out there who are uncaring money-grubbing types who are perfectly content with visiting a patient for ~15 minute appointments every month or two and write a prescription and forget about the patient until the next brief appointment in several weeks. Those types of doctors are how people get fucked by these drugs. I was very fortunate to just happen to have a very good doctor who was compassionate, very wary of the pros/cons of benzodiazepines, was very bright, and monitored my progress and prescriptions like a hawk.

i usually exercise regularly and did for the past 2 years. then hit a depressive episode and found myself unwilling to do many things all of a sudden; i quit my job, my exercise club, my gym, i didnt get out of bed to eat. i didnt feel terrible but i felt very numb and neutral with no desire for anything at all. this was actually really helpful with my sobriety, as i was newly sober and having no desire to even leave the house, see people and drink because i was so depressed was actually a benefit for that aspect of things. i started going to therapy and that helped and also taking an SSRI that is helping which I don't intend on staying on long term. my mood is drastically better, i found a new job i can do and although my desire to exercise hasn't come back yet, I'm sure it will in due course. exercise is wonderful for the mood but not the be all end all, i think.

Exactly. I was prescribed them and left to my own devices for a decade. A periodic evaluation with a “professional” was required in order for the prescriptions to be refilled but it was more of a checkbox activity. At the time I trusted them and the process. You really do have to take hold of your own healthcare. Medical “professionals” in most cases can’t be trusted either due to lack of knowledge of lack of caring for the patient unfortunately. After a decade I was able to come off them with awful side effects. But these were something I shouldn’t have been on longer than 6-12 months just to get me through PTSD which was triggered by a terrible divorce I was going through and not some chemical imbalance or mental health issue.

I keep a half of a .25 mg pill on my keychain. Rarely use it, but just knowing I have a safety pill in case of a panic attack helps prevent them. So, I do think there’s a benefit to this medication.

Heroin, Xanax, OxyCodone addict here. Opiates are the hardest to get off of, especially if being done intravenously.
