At the present this procedure is for high risk patients who can’t have open heart surgery. Studies are underway whether it becomes standard for all patients requiring aortic valves. Similarly the same technique is used to repair the mitral valve but a bit more complicated. A heart surgeon is on standby and the cost is a high because valve itself is very expensive compared to the one used in open heart procedure.
