I Still remember that wonderful evening probably in the late 1974 or 75 at one of my aunt's house where t Sir Dr Bhupen Hazarika had come over in the evening and sang quite a lot of songs and we were all mesmerised. Along with him I also had the golden opportunity to sing a song - probably it was one of the most precious moments of my life - my deepest regards & honour to the legend.

​@@SantanuProductions Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika sahab has mentioned about Paul Robeson's "Ol' Man River" multiple times whether in his autobiography "Moi Eti Jajabor" (Assamese)/Ami Ek Jajabor (Bengali) or stage programs or interviews. Here in the video too he mentioned about "Ol' Man River", just watch at the 2 minutes of the clip. Actually he met legendary Paul Robeson in America, while Bhupen Hazarika was pursuing his doctorate degree during late 1940s from Columbia University. Once Paul Robeson told in a class showing the guitar - "What is this?", everyone said- this is a guitar. Then Paul Robeson said that- this a social instrument which can change the world. Bhupen Hazarika sahab also attended that class. He was inspired by Paul Robeson's songs of unity, brotherhood and humanity. Paul Robeson was the flag bearer of the songs of Black people, who were tortured, were made slaves, were regarded as animals. Bhupen Hazarika sahab felt the pain of the people of Mississippi. He connected the same pain of millions of people of India residing in Brahmaputra and Ganga valley. Then he wrote, composed and sang that Classic Assamese song - Bistirno Parore, then it was translated into Bengali and Hindi. Bhupen daa has used slightly first 4 lines tunes of "Ol' Man River", but the rest Bistirno Parore was fully tuned by himself. You can listen both the Ol' Man River and Bistirno Parore properly, then you can understand the difference of tunes except the first 4 lines. And Bhupen daa has mentioned about Paul Robeson's that timeless song multiple times. He showed his full gratitude to Paul Robeson for inspiring him.
