An open mind is an unoccupied one. Capitalism is no different than weightlifting Joe. I haven’t done a sit-up a push-up or a pull up in 25 years and I’m thin but you have all of the muscles and I don’t think it’s fair. I say let’s create a centralized authority to take muscle from you and give it to me. Money is no different it takes hard work, discipline, study, talent, practice, diligence, perseverance and ability. Because it takes these qualities if you were to redistribute the wealth once and left the rules of the game the way they are, the wealthy would have the wealth again and the broke asses would be broke again for the same reason, they lack the very attributes that make wealthy people wealthy. That guy wants to take someone else’s money for nothing in return and that’s theft. He wants their money for no other reason than they have it and he doesn’t. That’s greed. Now sure there were atrocities surrounding child labor but there are also benefits to child labor. In the year 1900 once a child reached the age of 12 they were physically capable of being functioning members of society contributing back to society as of the year 2000 that number was 28 and of the year 2020 that number is 32.

@@antonslavik4907 that's too simple, the military industrial complex thrives because billionaire big companies thrive during war time era. Oil companies like exxon mobile, defense like lockheed martin all thrives because of USA's never ending hunger to "police" middle eastern countries in the world. Look at the governments that has been toppled in South America because their leaders opposed the power hungry companies like Dole and Monsanto. The idea is that it's not the military that is the main problem, but who controls it, which are politicians who happens to have stakes with big companies.

The downvotes are also coming from the military folk (his talk of the bloated military budget-750 billion). You cut that, you cut their (military folk) livelihood (pensions, grants for college, perks etc.). What they don't get is instead of putting all that money into the military we can put into making our society work for everyone event better without the loss of life. A lot of Americans think of 'me and mines' and they don't care to see past that.

@@TheBINIBALL You're 100 percent correct but I believe this to be true about most people. The reason it might not sound like it is because people have different approaches. For example, he's in favor of universal health care. He wants everyone to have medical coverage and everything. So he has great intentions. But I'm 100 percent against universal health care for numerous reasons. It jacks costs up, especially on people who might choose to not be covered. You're paying for other people now if you make right choices while the other people do not, meaning you're forced to pay for something you might not want. This system comes with a massive shortage, a surgery you can get in weeks over here can takes months if not over a year in these other countries. You lessen innovation due to strict regulations and ruin incentive to become a doctor. I do not want the government to control the medical industry because they're corrupt and ruin everything they touch. I want the power in the hands of the people, not corrupt politicians. I'm in favor of free market medical(we don't have free market medical right now, we have a mixed system). This increases the supply of doctors because there's incentive now with less regulations, which drops medical costs(so now all groups of people can afford it). We'll have more medical innovation because people will not be blocked off from investing; which means the medical industry will boom which will save lives and contribute to having a better quality of life. So this system cures the expensive problem we have here in America and it cures the shortage problem they have in countries with universal health care. This is certainly the best system all around which is why it works so great in everything else such as food, clothing, housing, computers, phones, etc. The reason I mention this isn't to debate which system works better. It's to drive home the point that you have 2 totally opposite opinions, but both sides actually want to help people. I get criticized on the internet for wanting free market medical for not caring if people die or whatever; I do care if people die but I believe the free market system is far superior to a socialist system or the system we have here in America right now.

@@averywilliams7236 It does sound logical, but intentions and results are 2 different things. I study economics, 99.9 percent of people do not, you want to hear the argument from some of the greatest economists in the world so we can tell you why this guy is wrong? He's in favor of universal health care. He wants everyone to have medical coverage and everything. So he has great intentions. But I'm 100 percent against universal health care for numerous reasons. It jacks costs up, especially on people who might choose to not be covered. You're paying for other people now if you make right choices while the other people do not, meaning you're forced to pay for something you might not want, I'm not covered but this is by choice because I choose to do other things with my money such as pay for college, I eat well and stay in good shape. This system comes with a massive shortage, a surgery you can get in weeks over here can takes months if not over a year in these other countries. Due to immense wait times symptoms have gotten worse and people have to stay out of work for a very long time until the surgery is completed, this is where you can make the argument that universal health care isn't really cheaper since you have to take into account all the loss pay. This is certainly the best system all around which is why it works so great in everything else such as food, clothing, housing, computers, phones, etc. Free market medical is the far better solution for medical than universal health care. Child labor laws. How can you stop someone from working? Nobody says anything when kids are out there in the heat mowing lawns and all that, but the world goes nuts when a kid is a cashier in much safer conditions. It doesn't make sense. What if the family needs everyone contributing? Who is the government to take that away? It's good to teach kids responsibility when they're young. A friend of mine always worked when he was a kid(off the books) and became a super hard worker till this day. Let the kids start young, don't deny them that experience and the on the job training they'll get if they choose to offer their services even for free because it will help them in the long run. Labor laws in general are ridiculous. Who are they to tell me what I can and can't work for? If I want to work for 5 dollars an hour, why is the government preventing that from happening? Now I won't get hired at all and all that training and experience is now gone. Whatever happen to freedom? They're forced to pay you OT for over 40 hours, so now if you choose to work over 40 hours they might just give the hours to others so they don't have to pay you double time so now you lose out on money. If they have a certain amount of full timers working for the company they have to provide medical coverage by law. So now what? We all get our hours slashed which is what has been happening to me. I want to work more but my company said I can't or they'll have to put me full time. These policies hurt us, they do not help.

Fire departments, policing, libraries, transportation....all of that is controlled by state and local governments. How is it that many socialists believe that the government is corrupt, especially the federal government, yet want to drastically expand the power of the federal government?

@@lb1181 Socialism actually has nothing to do with governmental power. You need to learn more. It can increase governmental power but it doesn't have to. Socialism only implies democratic ownership at the workplace - that's it. It means you're in a union and you have property rights associated with your work. Democratic socialism is a co-opted term because people are stupid and maligned what socialism meant for years. All democratic socialism means is co-opting the policies that already work in Europe and even in America for example with Medicaid for all via a single-payer insurance program. It's really a no brainer - the only advocation against it is due to the lobbying interests of insurance conglomerates. Zero actual citizens have a logical reason for the current healthcare system. Possibly other policies could be considered democratic socialism - such as free education or prison reform - basically any good idea America is retarded on compared to the rest of the world. Still, democratic socialism is 100% capitalistic - it does not imply any worker instilled democratic ownership.

Dr. Cornell West is a great guy, I have listened to him for decades in interviews on TV and such. He has a huge heart and a great conception of justice as a philosopher. He is not a great intellect or big brain though. I have heard him say things that shows he does not really understand the tax system or how business works ... but he is correct on most things in principle.

Good stuff here. I also think it should be pointed out that things like Medicare for all are forms of socialism that are implemented around the world with success. Some examples of successful socialism are places like Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. Another example of it is right here in America. They mentioned the fire department and police, but there is also socialism for the rich and corporations. Bernie Sanders brought this up recently. Socialism is seen as bad by establishment and the mainstream until it is used for the wealth. Then they love it.

Socialism can get messy on the scale of the United States. Those countries are tiny in comparison. Denmark is comparable to the population of maryland. It can be easier to manage. California still screws up their socialist policies. I'm not saying it couldn't work. Denmark and those other countries work because they have a lot of efforts to support a free market and not prevent a lot of natural capitalist policies. PragerU made a video about denmark being a socialist country, one thing people overlook is that after they adopted a more socialist government, they had an economic crisis until they managed to sort it all out years after, there was even a tax protester party that was created because of their change to socialism. They support free market and individual property rights and are easy places to open a business. All themes of capitalism, hopefully without the crony capitalism. They just have higher taxes and social programs like healthcare, because they make a lot of money. They're even backing out of retirement programs to give that power back to the individuals as we all can see throughout the world how bad that's going to end up. Hopefully it works. Here's the video if you're curious. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qquogX6ofcafl7s

@Astro naut Not in America. Bernie and AOC are social democrats and the right and commenters here call them "socialist" all the time. Some people even think Nazism and universal healthcare are related because of the word "socialist". The same word can mean all kinds of things (or nothing at all) depending on usage and context. Language is messy, meaning is what matters. Low-IQ people can't grasp this basic concept.

I agree our military footprint is way too big. However, our military spending is 1/16 of the discretionary budget. That is the budget that has to be approved by appropriation bills. The discretionary budget is 37%of total government spending. The other almost 80% of spending is on auto pilot. Medicare/Medicare, entitlement programs and debt service. We spend way more on entitlement programs to poor people. This is why we need to peel off the illegals from government assistance so we can take care of Americans first and deliver better services to our people.

He seems like a real interviewer giving his guest a real chance to explain their thoughts. People have gotten too used to the CNN/FOX format where people will be invited on just so they can yell at each other. Also, Conover is a HUGE moron so I will admit I enjoyed watching him challenge Conover. Even so he still did it in a respectful way. A lot of it was giving Conover rope to hang himself with as he stumbled over his dumb explanations.

Like everything else in life, there has to be a balance. Too much of a good thing is not really good. Those who speak and argue in absolutes dont realise that even the capitalist free market needs to be regulated in order for it to remain free. America is no longer a free market that it once was. Thanks to political lobbying and the influence of corporate money in the senate. America is not the leader in green tech revolution, thanks largely to the big oil and coal lobby. The trains lost out to the automobil manufacturers lobby in the 50s and its effects are now being felt. The deregulation of the financial markets in the name of keeping political interference out of the markets gave us the 2008 crisis. There are many more ponzi schemes like the housing loan scam waiting to explode in our faces. The funny part is to see mindless airheads who parrot propaganda and scream venezuela, Stalins gulag or the best of it all, why must I pay for others to free ride on. Absolutes are spoken by the absolutely ............
