I say let’s create a centralized authority to take muscle from you and give it to me. Money is no different it takes hard work, discipline, study, talent, practice, diligence, perseverance and ability. Because it takes these qualities if you were to redistribute the wealth once and left the rules of the game the way they are, the wealthy would have the wealth again and the broke asses would be broke again for the same reason, they lack the very attributes that make wealthy people wealthy. That guy wants to take someone else’s money for nothing in return and that’s theft. He wants their money for no other reason than they have it and he doesn’t. That’s greed. Now sure there were atrocities surrounding child labor but there are also benefits to child labor. In the year 1900 once a child reached the age of 12 they were physically capable of being functioning members of society contributing back to society as of the year 2000 that number was 28 and of the year 2020 that number is 32.

@@TheBINIBALL You're 100 percent correct but I believe this to be true about most people. The reason it might not sound like it is because people have different approaches. For example, he's in favor of universal health care. He wants everyone to have medical coverage and everything. So he has great intentions. But I'm 100 percent against universal health care for numerous reasons. It jacks costs up, especially on people who might choose to not be covered. You're paying for other people now if you make right choices while the other people do not, meaning you're forced to pay for something you might not want. This system comes with a massive shortage, a surgery you can get in weeks over here can takes months if not over a year in these other countries. You lessen innovation due to strict regulations and ruin incentive to become a doctor. I do not want the government to control the medical industry because they're corrupt and ruin everything they touch. I want the power in the hands of the people, not corrupt politicians. I'm in favor of free market medical(we don't have free market medical right now, we have a mixed system). This increases the supply of doctors because there's incentive now with less regulations, which drops medical costs(so now all groups of people can afford it). We'll have more medical innovation because people will not be blocked off from investing; which means the medical industry will boom which will save lives and contribute to having a better quality of life. So this system cures the expensive problem we have here in America and it cures the shortage problem they have in countries with universal health care. This is certainly the best system all around which is why it works so great in everything else such as food, clothing, housing, computers, phones, etc. The reason I mention this isn't to debate which system works better. It's to drive home the point that you have 2 totally opposite opinions, but both sides actually want to help people. I get criticized on the internet for wanting free market medical for not caring if people die or whatever; I do care if people die but I believe the free market system is far superior to a socialist system or the system we have here in America right now.

Child labor laws. How can you stop someone from working? Nobody says anything when kids are out there in the heat mowing lawns and all that, but the world goes nuts when a kid is a cashier in much safer conditions. It doesn't make sense. What if the family needs everyone contributing? Who is the government to take that away? It's good to teach kids responsibility when they're young. A friend of mine always worked when he was a kid(off the books) and became a super hard worker till this day. Let the kids start young, don't deny them that experience and the on the job training they'll get if they choose to offer their services even for free because it will help them in the long run. Labor laws in general are ridiculous. Who are they to tell me what I can and can't work for? If I want to work for 5 dollars an hour, why is the government preventing that from happening? Now I won't get hired at all and all that training and experience is now gone. Whatever happen to freedom? They're forced to pay you OT for over 40 hours, so now if you choose to work over 40 hours they might just give the hours to others so they don't have to pay you double time so now you lose out on money. If they have a certain amount of full timers working for the company they have to provide medical coverage by law. So now what? We all get our hours slashed which is what has been happening to me. I want to work more but my company said I can't or they'll have to put me full time. These policies hurt us, they do not help.

Democratic socialism is a co-opted term because people are stupid and maligned what socialism meant for years. All democratic socialism means is co-opting the policies that already work in Europe and even in America for example with Medicaid for all via a single-payer insurance program. It's really a no brainer - the only advocation against it is due to the lobbying interests of insurance conglomerates. Zero actual citizens have a logical reason for the current healthcare system. Good stuff here. I also think it should be pointed out that things like Medicare for all are forms of socialism that are implemented around the world with success. Some examples of successful socialism are places like Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. Another example of it is right here in America. They mentioned the fire department and police, but there is also socialism for the rich and corporations. Bernie Sanders brought this up recently. Socialism is seen as bad by establishment and the mainstream until it is used for the wealth. Then they love it.

Joe doesn’t agree with every guest. He challenged Adam Conover. Cornel West is intelligent and has years of study in the issues he is speaking about. A person worth listening to.

Yeah, I noticed some people get kind of upset that Joe doesn't challenge everyone, but that's what I like about him. He seems like a real interviewer giving his guest a real chance to explain their thoughts. People have gotten too used to the CNN/FOX format where people will be invited on just so they can yell at each other. Also, Conover is a HUGE moron so I will admit I enjoyed watching him challenge Conover. Even so he still did it in a respectful way. A lot of it was giving Conover rope to hang himself with as he stumbled over his dumb explanations.

I was in the Army and I loved it because it was socialist. It wasn't everyone for themselves. Yes, it's used by capitalism, as Gen. Smedly Butler said, but capitalism would not have thrived like it did without the socialist values of leave no one behind. It rode on the back of socialism. That's the truth!

As a governed country? Well as a sustained current country America is quite old compared to most. Further, Europe and Asia are obviously not countries. But Russia, Germany and Japan are and these current countries are incredibly young as current countries.

Wow, I'm so glad I tuned into this podcast today. This was enlightening. Favorite mention was that markets can be used in democratic ways, but they need to be ethical and there needs to be accountability. Child labor laws are a perfect case in point. Who is okay with a seven year old working in a factory seven days a week?
@theallseeingeye93883 жыл бұрын
Like everything else in life, there has to be a balance. Too much of a good thing is not really good. Those who speak and argue in absolutes dont realise that even the capitalist free market needs to be regulated in order for it to remain free. America is no longer a free market that it once was. Thanks to political lobbying and the influence of corporate money in the senate. America is not the leader in green tech revolution, thanks largely to the big oil and coal lobby. The trains lost out to the automobil manufacturers lobby in the 50s and its effects are now being felt. The deregulation of the financial markets in the name of keeping political interference out of the markets gave us the 2008 crisis. There are many more ponzi schemes like the housing loan scam waiting to explode in our faces. The funny part is to see mindless airheads who parrot propaganda and scream venezuela, Stalins gulag or the best of it all, why must I pay for others to free ride on. Absolutes are spoken by the absolutely ............
