Anarki85 that's how it goes a lot of the time. The man who plays him may be shy and reserved... By the doc certainly is not. A lot of times, a persona is just how one wishes to act or view themselves, despite not being comfortable doing so in normal circumstances. So they make a character as a way to present certain characteristics that won't have a negative impact on them personally. If you saw someone acting like the doc in a supermarket, you'd probably think they're nuts in some way. Throw on an outfit, make a character separate from yourself, and Bam; you're not crazy. You're just acting. "I can't behave like this normally, but I can as the doc" kind of thing.
