I love how people gloss over Jeru and Group Home for Preemo. Those are 3 classics. Preemo also has the PRhyme albums. And when you add up how many bangers he did for KRS, Rakim, Nas, Big, Jay, and ALL the other great MCs it’s almost impossible to not put him at #1. He’s produced for everyone!

Mike resents Dre for Eminem. How many times have they had this conversation with coop. He tries hard to subtly discredit Dre but just fails to cause an overwhelming majority and also the majority of listers in his own podcast thinks Dre is undeniably great. On a hiphop tip, aunt no way he’s better than Dre, preemo and Rza. If we’re stepping outside of hiphop then we can have that conversation but surely not in hiphop

A significant part of bar work is musicality, subject matter and relatability, that’s just common sense. This is why Nas and Pac are the beloved GOATS across generations, ethnicities, countries, social status and so on. If someone is simply looking for lyrical miracle rap, that’s fine, but that’s a very personal preference that everyone doesn’t have to agree with. And it most certainly isn’t indicative of a better understanding of rhyming skills.
@leroygreen6310
@leroygreen6310 4 ай бұрын
Anyone questioning if Em is loved or considered great lyrically can Google him and see for themselves. Pac was great but if someone felt like Crooked I has better rhyme skills there's reasons why and people can still say Crooked is wack but those that can hear what he does appreacite it.

@@stillhere6558 So those that feel that why shouldn't talk about Hip Hop at all since that is the end all be all to the subject. Those that are intelligent enough to see that no there are facts involved when we're talking about specific lyricists should be able to discuss the art without people that only see the most obvious position which is opinions exist.

I think Em's vocal change has to do with him getting older. People's voices age differently. Ghostface's voice went through this very weird mutation around 2012(when he made those concept albums with Adrian Younge). The Big Doe Rehab is the last time Ghostface sounded like OLD Ghostface. Eminem has tried to match his older vocal tone on records like Berzerk.
@stillhere6558

Voice tone is largely impacted by lifestyle choices. People that do a lot of yelling/loud talking and smoking I notice have haggard voices
@stillhere6558

Regarding Em, simply because he has complex rhyme schemes doesn't make his rhymes generally good for that reason. That's giving entirely too much weight to lyrical gymnastics, which mean nothing if the content of the lyrics and rhyming style don't connect with the listener. Em has his fanbase and you don't have to be a musical scholar to understand what he's doing when he raps. For those of us with a keen sense of musicality, we understand instrumentation, arrangements, vocals, lyrical agility, songwriting, engineering, etc. It comes down to personal preference, and for those of us who enjoy soulfulness, relatable lyrics, a certain coolness/effortlessness in rap delivery, and soulful rhythm in production - Em doesn't resonate for the most part. Hopefully his new song is a departure from the EPMD 2 feature that was a horrific lyrical performance on every level.
